Intros.

I started building my Toyota a few years back, and in the process life happened. Bought a house, remodeled house, built a shop, procrastinated on the Yota, etc.

Nees to get some other irons out of the fire and get this pile finished.

what did your frame height end up being with the links?

I bought an 81 pickup out of a tow yard that I'm gonna make into a mild camping/trail rig. 33s and probably a flat bed. I've turned old amd boring

Working on painting and armoring my FJ60.

Still swapping 1KD into my 88, it’s a bit slow going due to the uptravel of the 4Wheel Underground 3-link SAS. I want the motor to sit a bit lower, but the suspension has other ideas. Anyhow, I have finally burned in the motor mounts, and can move forward with the swap.

My current rig. 85' extra, 22re, locked, 4:88, single 4.7 case, bobbed and exo. Just finished the bob, first one I've done. Definitely some tedious work.

Joined because Tyler and Jimmy were talking about this on Snail Trail 4x4 podcast. Well worn 1983 SR5 pickup, bobbed, G series 5 speed, single t-case, 20R with 390 holley, 5.29s locker/spool, 35" tires, hand made bed with integrated roll bar, lots of little things. Building a 93 4Runner for a family rig, have an FJ40 on the back burner.

Love love LOVE that truck! Just like my first one! I still have a set of those wheels. Better check the nuts often, they like to work loose...

Guess I'll throw in the crap I'm building, or trying to build. Had an accident over a year ago, broke my back and injured my neck pretty severly, workers comp is doing a fine job of screwing me so the surgeries I desperately need keep getting put off and I'm just as hurt as the day it happened. So progress is slow, I just get to sit in the basement and stare at my junk, and search the web looking at other people build stuff and wheel.

know that feeling took a few years to build my 4runner. right after finishing it enough to wheel it last march I had a mild heart attack then covid hit and then last September a fucking testicular torsion that put me out almost 4 months after all the surgeries

86 4runner, ruffstuff front housing 5.29's front and rear grizzly locker in the front spool rear. 22re,w56,toy case to a dana300 and cable shifters that beat the shit out of us. ford fueltank in the rear and a internal/exo cage

I really like that dash, simple without being boring

Discussion with coworker this morning. Airbnb house booked for Florida for 18 people including game room and pool. They got a call last night - 8 days before their vacation - the rental house was sold and their reservation is cancelled. After 5 hours on the phone last night, they secured a new house - less bedrooms - no game room and no pool for a $500 more than the original house. They are pissed.

Guy I worked with had a similar issue with about eight hours' notice in Colorado: already had his family packed and waiting to get on the plane when they got the word.

yaknow, I was never really a fan of them. I used Nelson-Riggs for years, but had a fallout with them last year after taking FOURTEEN MONTHS to issue a return.

Tusk has a nice setup that recently came out.

The tusk bags definitely look good. I have mountains of wolfman gear and swear by them. What didn't you like about them?

Dad's trying to talk me into running the IDBDR this year (not really talk me into it, more like I gotta figure out how to afford it/get two weeks off). I will need to outfit the GS with new bags as the vario cases aren't going to work. I had planned wolfmans just because I have had zero bad luck with them.

You would be better off directing your wife's interest into something that you will enjoy. Photography will suck all the money out of your life and you will be left at home cutting out paper dolls. :smokin:

Well, at the very least, you can still take pictures of a birthday party or something with a few thousand bucks' worth of camera. It's not totally useless. As opposed to other hobbies, it's as a result fairly reasonable: Find something to do with a tube buggy once you get tired of THAT hobby. no room for groceries, it won't mow the yard, nothing..

No, it's not terrible advice...the point is stop trying so hard, desperation is very unattractive. Nobody is saying stop trying, it's just that you need to natural and confident and go with the flow. Chicks don't want a guy begging for it, they want a little bit of challenge too.

Uhh, several people said stop trying:laughing:
Talk to 200 girls while living your life. He'll be awkward AF for the first 20, and James Bond smooth for the last 20.
He can do it in 100 days, or 40 years. While living his life.

Then you go on to tell him how to do things different, to be smooth and casual, making some changes in how he acts. That's my whole damn point.

Make some small changes, and go take action.

Hey All - stopping in to give a brief intro to my rig. I don’t have social media so I’m contemplating on documenting my build and trip reports on this forum.

I’ve finally completed phase 1 of my dream build which is based off of the first gen Tacoma platform. This is my 2001 Tacoma double cab and the specs currently are:

Front Axle: Custom Passenger Drop 14 Bolt with Super-Duty outers, Yukon 5.38 gears and grizzly locker

Rear Axle: 14 bolt with Yukon 5.38 gears and grizzly locker

Transfercase: Atlas 4 speed with 3.8 low gear

Transmission and Motor: stock

Front Suspension: Custom Rockhound 3 link with Fox Factory 2.5x12 DSC coil overs and hydraulic bump stops

Rear Suspension: Chevy 63s and Fox shocks

Wheels and Tires: Raceline Beadlocks with 43” Super Swamper SX tires

Misc: Warn Zeon 12S, Tom Woods Driveshafts with 1410 joints, PSC hydraulic Assist with custom double shear steering arms, custom tube bumper, 4x Innovations rock sliders.

I built this rig to be able to enjoy the Rubicon and that dream will finally become reality in about a month. Following a summer of wheeling the next round of mods will include:

Install the brand new Gen V L83 with upgraded top end work. A built 4L70, interior cage with integrated bed cage/spare tire carrier, and possibly entertain linking the rear suspension.

Got mine smogged and tagged for the first time in 4 years. :flipoff2:

Hi all.
I heard about this from Snail Trail 4x4 & Wheeling, Wine & Whiskey podcasts... thought I would sign up, check it out and see what I could learn. You all have some awesome rigs. I've got a mild 4th Gen 4Runner that got me into wheeling and then I went all in with a 1st Gen that I have been rehabbing.

Just bought this little 3rd gen. I’ve been wheelin in cruisers since 96 and now it’s back to a little yota since my son has the old 40 and my 80 had had enough. Joined pirate and mud so many years ago, it was early 2000’s. Found this place and rme4x4 👍🏻 People that go wheelin!

I’m a longtime Pirate lurker from 2000. Got this rig 3 or so years ago, older build and needed a lot, but just the right set up for me. Now getting 4runner ready for Rubithon, needed some preventative maintenance . Fresh wheel bearings, replace the greasy shoes, take the opportunity to inspect the third, and added an inspection port to the housing. Plus some garish gloss to impress the haters. I’m so looking forward to getting up on the granite.

I just finished up my first trip to the Rubicon and the Tacoma worked very well and the overall trip was an epic experience with an awesome group of people! The group and I are still compiling digital media but here is a video that my friend made of the Tacoma going up Soupbowl.
