Brake hose or hardline?

Do you really need the brake hose or is it ok to just plumb it up with the hard line? Is there flex on the caliper side?

There's always some movement/flex in these systems. That looks like a floating caliper (can't see the other side, so assumption), so yes, it moves a bit every time you hit the brakes, and with pad wear.

Pad changes will be fun.

How do you plan to attach it?

The proper banjo fitting for a tube would cost the near the same as the correct hose.

Why does that fitting look like it's spent a lifetime in the ocean and the tube looks new?

Stainless line, steel fitting .

The steel line will probably have enough flex for normal use. You're gonna want the hose there when you go to change pads though.

That's the great thing about brakes, you can pretty much do whatever. It's pretty tough to screw them up in a meaningful way

I'd leave a coil if doing that, it would probably be an air trap though .

I ran flex line to all my calipers like a normal person
