I have been borrowing a friends 5 gallon cast iron kettle/caldron a couple of times a year to make big batches of chili and chicken noodle soup. I've been told that is is about 160 years old and cooks great...but don't want to damage it and have been looking for something similar.

During Covid/Pandemic, there was short supply of the Potjie pots. Now, it appears that they are back in stock and available to ship. I'm looking for something close to what i have been using and it looks like the #8 is the size i want:

it looks like everyone is importing the exact same pots.

Does anyone have one of these? Do you like it? Any issues?

Thanks!
Matt

Chinese cast iron? No thank you.

Grew up making pinto beans in one. Took all day or all night to get done.

FIL had one that he rendered sheep hides with. I really wanted that one.

Worked summer camp in my teens. Used a 1.5 gal potjie to make red beans once/twice a week for two months for several years.

My second wife's father boiled sheep skins in a 5 gal caldron.

I'd love to get a hold of one of the originals.
