I acquired this 4runner a couple months ago and finally got a little time to test it out to make sure everything was working. I made it to the lake with the family and one of our 3 dogs. It was all sand and rocks with a little mud but took it easy trying to feel it out.

1992 4runner 3.0 v6
5 speed swap
Twin cases, triple sticked
1984 front axle, ifs hubs, arb locker
5.29 gears
Spool in the rear axle
Not sure but I think the front springs are ruf
63” Chevy springs in the rear.
15x10, 35x12.50 Chinese tires
Everything works! Has a power sunroof and ac!

I got it spray painted two types of black, jambs are not painted . Has rear tube bumper in the rear, stock upper part of the front bumper in the front. The Po gave me some janky sliders I’ll weld on soon. I am buying a bolt on which plate and having my co worker build a front bumper off of it. He builds race cars and does clean work. I’m looking for tires and wheels. Not sure if I’m just going to buy a set of bias ply irocks for now or pick up a set of 17” bead locks with tires.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments let em fly.

Nice 2nd gen! Dont let the 3oh over heat. And brace your front crossmember before putting a winch bumper on it our youll pull your nuts out through the frame. And its as painful at it sounds.

Thanks, I’ve done a little research and know of the head gasket failures. I flushed the cooling system and put fresh coolant in and distilled water. I wrapped the cross over at the rear of the engine. I didn’t hear that about the cross member and the winch tho. Makes perfect sense. I’d probably be that guy that would rip his bumper clean off lol.

I have a 94 setup identical drivetrain wise. Ran radial 35s with 15s for 12 years and it was great, didn't really worry about anything drivetrain related after installing longs.

Put radial 37s with 17s on and you can feel the difference. Considering dropping back to 35s for clearance and less stress on parts, but depends on your terrain.

Looks too tall to be a RUF pack.. unless the shackles are mouted below the frame. Need pictures taken from not a potato 😄

3.slow may not be the best mill... but mine has been. 13 years of east coast wheeling/DD with mostly neglect. Never failed to crawl in 90+ degree weather with the A/C blasting ice cubes at you. Jeeps hated it after they had long been heatsoaked and overheating.

I was told it had Bobby longs but haven’t confirmed it yet. I’ll get some more and better pictures tomorrow. I’m in Northern California, there’s anything from simple dirt trails to the Rubicon and Fordyce. I’m not real hard on my crap, I drive pretty sensibly and have a fear or breaking and having to leave my rig. I did that one time and came back to all my glass broken, all my panels smashed and no wheels and tires. Granted I was alone that time.

Here’s some more pix. I pulled the front hubs to check and re pack the bearings. I was able to confirm it does have some og Bobby longs, I didn’t notice but it has a hi pinion 3rd too. I need to re do the brake lines, the Po bypassed the abs/power steering thingy. He ran new lines but didn’t secure them and each one is different. Like mentioned above I def need to reinforce the frame and such. Any thoughts on how long the shock body’s are? I haven’t bottomed them out yet but have only been on simple trails and no rocks yet. Bump stops are soon to come.
