YJ rebuild with my son. stretch, 5.3 swap

This is awesome. Glad to see someone that age working with their hands (not on a phone) and doing it as a father/son project is even better.

Congrats the time together will mean more than the Jeep ever will

Thank you for the comments.

Progress has been slow but we work on it when we can. Getting closer on the 8.8.

Here's my YJ stretch. Might be something in there that could help...or you might learn from all my screwups.

Awesome! We’ll take a look at it. Thank you!

Here’s the initial pattern. Backlash is at .11

Looks deep. Going to remove some from the pinion and check again.

Sent the steering gear into Igor at Redhead. He sent us a rebuilt and ported gear back. Picked up a MORE steering brace awhile ago. It’s a 1/4 too long which made the clamp bolt hole off. I knew we should have just built one.

Went with a 1” body lift. From what we have read it’s needed to run a CJ front clip. Plus our goal is a flat belly pan, so we need the room.

We have done a bunch of reading and planning our stretch process. Decided to swap the body over before we start cutting.

Cant wait to see the finished product. Keep up the good work!

Did you at least explain to your son that this is how you can be killed by mom? Or was it more of a "lets see how this goes, I'm not the one who will be savagely attacked, he's faster anyway".:flipoff2:

I just have a large upright freezer I put the carrier in. Seems to achieve the same end goal without any smell of burning oil.

Jumping around on stuff as we have time.

He tore down the 44 for the front. Hunting for the stuff to get disc’s on it.

Finally got the block apart and ready for the machine shop.

Working on understanding budgeting 🤣 He’s sold some parts, and been saving money up. He didn’t want to spend money on a piston rack so he built one outta stuff in the barn.
