WTF is this piece that fell off my taco?

Replacing the heater core and I noticed this piece wedged on the steering rack.

Recent work is starter replacement. It has been throwing a lean code so I replaced the pvc and a couple of the vacuum hoses. Running great.

WTF is this piece?

Haha that’s the starter plunger. Never heard of anyone rebuilding them or the car or exploding for that matter.
