Thailand woman has leg amputated at Bangkok airport after it became trapped under moving walkway

"Thailand's officials said a woman had to have her leg amputated at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport after the limb became trapped under a moving walkway, according to reports.

The 57-year-old Thai woman, who was due to board a morning flight to the southern Nakhon Si Thammarat province, became caught by the walkway in the Bangkok airport’s Terminal 2.

A medical team there eventually had to cut her left leg off above the knee, according to the airport's officials."

Reading that paste, I thought that surely had to be under the wheels of a jet bridge. I wonder what failed to allow that to happen.

You can see others with missing teeth. Maybe one was loose or missing. Can she sue/is airport liable over there?

EDIT: That had to shred her flesh to the bone like a cheese grater. Poor woman; I can't imagine the pain.
In America she would already have an unlimited flight ticket and a couple million bucks. No idea about Thailand

Right?! I have to imagine those things produce a FUCK load of torque; I bed that sum bitch just kept spinning chewing away at her leg until someone found the emergency stop (if it had one).

My guess is her jeans got caught in there and sucked her in.

Oooo, trauma wounds are rough healing. Above the knee amputation is really tough too.

Lol. I landed in U-Tapao airfield in Thailand in 2002. My father was also there on his way to Vietnam. That place was the exact same as it was when my father was there. No Sabai bucks for you.

At some point doesn't the body max out on the amount of pain it can feel and you just kinda go into shock? I mean, fuck if I ever would want to feel that much pain, but is the limit say double what breaking an arm feels like (which I have, at least my wrist)? or 1000 times worse?

She was probably unconscious from shock a second or two after it ate her leg.

I've seriously fawked my big toes up twice on escalators already. Now I gotta worry about the damn things eating me? :mad3:

Something's not adding up with this pic. She seems mighty composed for a mangling victim...

I’m surprised there is that much room in the opening to fit a leg, or does it just grind to fit?

Either way, ouch

That's some final destination shit. I'll walk.

seems rare enough. Moving walkways are functionally very similar to escalators. Similar incident:

Most I found seem to be lost toe, filet of foot or similar. Mostly little kids with small appendages.

Even with the guard broke off, the remaining space between teh walkway panel and the frame is pretty small unless teh walkway panel (or escalator step) has a wheel failure or something.

Or it could look like a playdoh fun factory down there. :barf:

Anchorage airport has a 90* guardrail at the top of an escalator. I'm honestly surprised it's not been an issue. It's close enough to the moving guardrail to make my brain trigger "that's not very safe"
