Why is your cat scared of you when you're on the other side of the glass door?

My cat loves me. It runs from some people, but when I approach, she's happy and likes it. She always comes to me and it's all good.
She sits by the glass door a lot. The dog outside comes to the glass door and she doesn't care. If that glass door wasn't there, the dog would eat her instantly.

So why is it, when I go outside and approach the glass door, she freaks out and runs away from me like I'm a bad guy? Just because I'm on the other side of the glass door.
I asked a couple of people about this and they say the same thing about their cat. What gives?

It's indoor cats, I think. But see what happens from the other side. Be funny if it worked anyway.

Probably cant tell it is you due to the glare on the glass and the fact that they can't smell you. Sometimes me or my wife will hold up a cat to the window we have on our side door when the other gets home and the cat does the same thing. Sees movement and hears the thumping of footsteps but can't quite tell who is coming. So freaks out and sets a claw in your belly as they jump away.

No glass doors in my house.............cause hurricanes. But both my cats will jump up onto the window sills to be let in. If I'm outside and see one at a window inside, I just walk over and open it so they can jump out. So I'll say mine see a window as a window.

My next door neighbors have two big dogs ( pitbull mix and a boxer) and use that invisible fence with the shock collars on the dogs. They bark at my cats all the time from their side. If my big cat sees me at the neighbors house, he'll just walk right over and the dogs stop barking and wont get within 10' of him. They still must remember him teaching them he's not one to be fucked with. I've found three other cats in my yard dead from him and someone around here used to have a wiener dog that I found laying at the back door with it's throat ripped out. That cat kills everything.

He'll hang out in the shop all day long when I'm working out there.
