What's new

Who knows about buying H1's ?

I think a 6.0 swapped one with a bright colored wrap job, some comfortable seats, and a nice stereo would rent out regularly.

I was just up in the Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg area a few weeks ago. I was surprised at all the SxS and Jeep rental places. It seems like people rent them just to drive around town, into Great Smoky Mountains National Park, and to drive the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail. They all have street AT tires and are clean.
That is my business in a nutshell

pretty shitty truck... my uncle "scrapped" a bazillion of them for letterkenny army depot, pretty depressing to see, allot like the cash for clunkers shit....

Ok, scratch my 911 safari idea....panamera safari it is! Could be even cheaper, given old hump back panamera's go for pennies.
Dang they really do go for pennies. I remember delivering a bunch when I was living in south Florida. Every wealthy person bought one for their nanny's and maids so they wouldn't have a poverty car seen in the driveway.

Would love to get up close and personal with a LARC.

I LOVE everything amphibious (and OD).

For a machine to own yes.

My lunch money says the Hummer will get way more attention though as a rental. For that purpose, it only has to be fun for half a day or a day. Which is about how long that would last. Mine is nothing special at all and gets way more attention than I care for.

My biggest concern with renting the Hummer, especially in the OP location, is the lack of the park position in the transmission.
Some do have park

Yup, like 10% of new. And the best part is, they aren't terribly unreliable, the powertrain and such in them is pretty solid....just nobody wants them because they weren't the best looking vehicle and the Porsche repair costs scare them off.

Aren't they still like 30k for an early 20teens model

If they were 15k I might start shopping for an AWD winter dd:laughing:

Thanks for those that posted the video(s) from the Grind Hard Plumbing joint. That was entertaining content and well produced. I will b e watching more from their channel.

I too have always wanted a surplus one but have known how much POS they were since inception. Didn't realize they were THAT bad though =D

It would be fun to have one that had already been gone through (powerplant, trans, seats, etc).

I think the business model has potential but there is definitely going to be a steep curve as many have pointed out. I'm impressed by how much you have grown the business from scratch in the first place but you will definitely need some reserve funding; ie if you can afford to buy three, only buy two and save the monies for that third one in the HMMV emergency funding cookie jar.

$20kish for the early ones now, some do get down into the 15's but I'd avoid the cheapest ones. Can even find the 4S (not just the 4) in the low 20's.

Get a fleet of gmt400 suburbans and make them look cool to the general public

Tube half doors, cut fenders and some 35’s

Whole fleet would cost less than one hummer

that is fucking cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There was one on Cape Cod or maybe South Coast Craigslist like 10yr ago. Some marine construction guy was selling it. Probably rotting in some marina's back lot at this point.

Edit: Pretty sure it was a LARC-LX

Just thought of something with the engine and trans swap talk. HMMMVVVV's don't have a park. Just the e brake. At least the early one I had. FWIW.
Did they ever fix the e-brake dragging issue?

We had problems with the e-brakes not fully disengaging. We discovered this one night playing follow the leader through the forest on Fort Lewis. The drivers were wearing NVGs. I noticed a glow under the truck in front of me and told my Sargent. When we stopped, the e-brake was to hot it caused the plastic near it to start melting

I've got no idea. Guessing any numbnuts could twist the ebrake knob so tight it wouldn't release. Thinking about it more...operator error was probably the issue.

Why couldnt Crispy Chix buy some military blazers and go topless/doorless? still get the suburban macho dad but not the overly weird characteristics of the hummer?

Ehh, the newest ones with the gear drive fan and 6.5 turbo/4l80e aren't all that bad if you can find one cheap. I've become intimately familiar with s/n 300k+ m1151a1's and they will do 70 and get there soon enough. It's terrifying but they will do it. They do beat you up but it takes awhile, 3hr trips feel like 12 hr trips in something modern. Passenger front seat space is horrid. They get 15mpg at 35 on hard pavement and you need earplugs.
Perfect rental IMHO, horrible thing to dd.

Who’s our boat guy near the Chesapeake Bay that had a run-in with one of those?

I remember a comment about three-quarter throttle versus full throttle, the only difference was fuel consumption and noise.
