I have decided to add Hummers to my rental fleet for 2025.

First are they reliable?

What I have been told by someone that rents them is you buy 5 to get 3 running ones, truth?

Is there a company that sells turn key ones?

This guy is offering to sell me some for $50k each but that seems high.

I am looking for the actual military ones that have been made street legal.

A quick google search only turns up the imported ones from the 90's that were made for the street and are selling for $100k

I just want them basic, no doors, no a/c, just barebones.

I know they are loud (doesn't matter) they don't go fast (what is the cruising speed?)

I plan on wrapping them in crazy colors and renting them out, so educamaite me. :homer:

this is what I am looking for

but they have Hummer bodies for UTV now that look pretty dang close to the real deal just on a smaller scale.

DON'T DO IT!

They are unreliable TURDS.

They come with 6.2 (and later 6.5 NA) engines with rotary fuel pumps that got destroyed by JP8. 160 hp can barely move the nearly 3-ton curb weight when the pump is good, all the one you will find will need an injection pump.

The battery hold down system is shit, the terminals are shit, and I have seen dozens of battery fires from loose connections.

The thermal timer unit for the fan clutch will go out, causing an overheat. Unplugging the unit will engage the cutch, but then you can't hear yourself think (while accelerating even slower after the fan takes another 20 hp away).

Guaranteed the "bitch nut" on the starter will be missing (named for how much of a bitch it is to reinstall). Over time, this causes the block to crack at the starter bolts.

And finally, the outboard seating position is unnatural; you WILL have renters sideswiping a bunch of shit on the right side.

Is this specifically for the off-road park? That means private land right?

If so just surf the gov auctions and get the non street legal ones for dumb cheap

ok, well that is that then.

Fuck I liked the idea, I am trying to pivot my business away from UTVs

Those are some strong reasons why I would not want them.

Sounds like you want an HMMWV not an H1.

I have an 86 model. It’s a pretty simple machine, but there’s not a ton of the shelf parts on it. My Cruise’s happily at about 40 to 45 miles an hour and that’s it. I’ve been thinking about selling mine as I don’t use it.. I figure about 12,000 based off of what I see on the market. That is a titled one.

no, for the roads.

I thought they would be unique open air vehicle, sounds like they are horrible POS
They were a marginal, 80's GM product when they were introduced in 1984.

Imagine any GM product from the 80s.

Now park it for weeks/months on end, then fire it up and run balls to the wall for a few weeks, only to park it again. Do this about once per year, until the time comes to run balls to the wall for a year straight.

Do this for 35 years.

That's the level of reliability you will get.

My boss has one he babies and keeps in climate controlled storage and it still breaks all the time and every time it does it costs him out the ass in parts and labor because they're a pain in the ass to work on. They're also stupid small inside and uncomfortable as shit to drive. Might have been worth it as a rental 25 years ago, but that time has come and gone. One might break even on rentals, but I wouldn't go buying a bunch of them.
