What's new

Who goes to a chiropractor?

I go on a regular basis. The joints next my spine and hip areas will come out on a regular basis.

I get decompression on my neck due to no cartigle between C6 and T1. It helps, but when your out for awhile and get everything adjusted. Your muscles will hurt. Getting a good massage helps also.

The guy sold his business to a lady that was working with him. So, now I walk out stiff. She is fawking hot and a great personality.

It’s expensive but really the best option is to go to an orthopedic surgeon or osteopath and get x rays and an mri to see what your actual issue is. If you are in as much pain as I’m assuming. And I’m definitely not qualified to give any medical advice, just a 20 year hand in the oilfield
The hip issue, I have had MRIs and specialists. I am just not willing to do the surgery to fix it. Cutting the top of my femur off and replacing it with Terminator titanium ball and redoing the muscle sounds good until they say 15 year life span on it.

I am going to wait until it's unbearable and then I will do it. RIght now, I can manage.

The back though, I want to fix. I can't even sit for too long or I pay for it for days.

I have gone since an accident back in like 2017. Dude is very cool, likeable guy. He does xrays and exams initially and if you haven't been for over a year. Hes been doing it since the late 80s so I figure he knows his shit.

His two offspring are working for his clinic as well. I mentioned to his son about some pain in the base of my skull and recommended decomp neck therapy next round. I'm stoked for that.

Generally pain in whole back and neck. Feels good afterwards but comes back.

There are other options, cadaver used parts, yes I'm serious.

My chiropractor moved to Montana and I've been a mess ever since.

I really trust the guy and he didnt do any real aggressive adjustments. Helped me alot.

My step brother has a chiropractor that has really helped him but sounds like he has a pretty aggressive style.

I went to a pain and headache specialist that warned me, she worked with several patients that had been paralyzed by chiropractors. She wasn't concerned about what mine was doing though. Like anything, there are good ones and bad ones.

I need to find a replacement.. or just move to Montana

I did from 12y to 45. Got an inversion table and a hot tub and I’ll never go back. Could barely walk when I drove long haul from 18y. They wanted to do surgery on me at 37. I said fuck that and figured it out. Yrmv.

Chronic pain SUCKS !

… providers in this field are hit and miss

A good way to start is by asking around and talking to their patients

… they’ll say the same things that several people in this thread said

If they want to set up multiple appointments forever, they’re going to milk you like a dairy

If they ask if you have imaging that’s a good sign

If they say that they only want to see you as required, it’s a very good sign

If you’ve got any imaging / x-rays, be sure to bring them to your consultation and watch them as they look them over.

… should take a couple minutes at least
… those images are like a road map … but only for the day they were taken …
… things seem to change for the better/worse every damn day

It’s interesting how the different types of imaging can give different results. An MRI gives a little better look at the soft tissue, but x-rays also have their ( and are much cheaper )

Other things to consider are your shoes / insoles. Many back issues start with poor foot support. Custom insoles / orthotics can make a world of difference.

A new mattress may also have a huge benefit if it’s old and worn out

It’s also helpful to utilize some of Mother Nature’s magic as well

Turmeric is a very versatile and useful ingredient in many of the aging process challenges that we face as we grow older and all those “ hold my beer moments “ come back to haunt us. It’s an amazing anti inflammatory in addition to its other many benefits

Best of luck, and hope you can get some relief

I see one 3 - 4 times a year. My workplace benefits foot the bill and it certainly makes a difference for me.

I've got lower back / hip issues that started when I was on a 35hr drive to the hammers a decade ago that have been much improved since I started going on a semi regular basis. I also dislocated a rib about 2 years ago (which is the reason why I went to this chiro in the first place) and she pops it back in for me as needed and it is always an immediate relief / I can breath again type deal.

She doesn't offer plans and leaves it up to me to book as I see fit. There are a lot of quacks out there who will intentionally hurt you to make you come back. I consulted one who wanted me to come in multiple times a week with no end date, so beware of who you are booking in with.

went to a guy, he could look at you, and with the tip of his finger poke it in your back and hit a strand of muscle (that one is sore?) and holy shit, he was right
pop everything back into place, and I would feel like a million bucks

When I started going to the hot blond girl, she does things, but I feel like this kid in the process, and also, feel like a million bucks

I used to go. After losing a bunch of weight and I started doing squats weightlifting and boxing core workouts my back issues went away. The strengthening of my back and core muscles was the key to fixing my problems. The chiropractor was just a temporary solution.

I noticed when I'd do cable rows consistently I'd have reduced pain in my middle back.

Stopped going to the gym for like 4 years now.

2nd this from wife's experience. He cranks the shit out of her back to have an effect, and her muscles are sore for a few days. Nothing compared to nerve pain, though.

My MIL just got her hip done, and walks like she's 20 years younger.
My buddy got both knees done, and after a few months of PT he's out guiding grizzly hunts again.
Common theme from both is "OMG, why did I suffer so long!! I should have done this decades ago!"
Why are you worried about the titanium wearing out- afraid your hip might hurt? :flipoff2:

Oh, forgot- at the chiro's suggestion, I got one of these off ebay. It's a DIY traction device with a pump-up air cylinder to stretch your neck. 100% worth it for neck pain.

I've been looking into it. My knee caps don't track where they're supposed too, and it causes sciatic nerve pain. Hope they can help them

When I was working in the field I would screw my back up about once a year to the point of barely being able to get out of bed. One or two trips to our chiropractor and I’d be good to go.

I was starting to get occasional back pain again the last few years. Losing a lot of weight, working out consistently, and doing stretches has helped tremendously.

I see a upper cervical chiropractor and he hasn't helped me any. In fact I feel like punching him in the face. Injuring people further is not constructive I'm starting to thing. Most relief I've ever had was a massage therapist.

I have no injury when I go I just need a good general cracking, I hate when they start trying to analyze things, just crack it and let me go.

I have taught my wife to crack my back, its half ass but it works most of the time.

I go every 6 weeks , been doing that for 5 years or so, I was a mess from 30 years of working on concrete in a machineshop.
I ran a large horizontal lathe that has 4 steps on to the operator station , the repetitive motion stuff .. blah blah blah..

he got me broke free on the 4th visit , I go back for maintenance , my neck has arthritis along with several stress fractures
( a life of motorsports) he keeps everything freed up.
I'm 54 without any pain , your results may vary

I’ve been to a scammy chiropractor and a good one. The scammers will crack you all over and tell you to come back in a day or two if pain persists. Run from these people.

I crawled into this old chiropractor’s office after a scam artist put me in so much pain I wanted to off myself. He was completely different from them. He took the time to warm up your muscles, in this case my lower back, and he did ONE adjustment. Which was to yank my leg and damn near rip me off the table.

It was instant relief. After that he put me on the tens unit for 10 minutes and then sent me off.

But this dude explained me how it used to be. He said back in the day if you scammed people all the other doctors and chiropractors would make sure they put you out of business. So you had a standard to maintain.

Good luck in your search.

fwiw If you get a look of pitty followed by a "take a breath, this is goona hurt"

Its goona fuckin hurt:laughing:
Facts. I had a few of them on my atlas and the drop table. It set up with his palm against that vertebra and loaded up pressure into it. The drop table finally let go and I felt my whole body and extremities recoil from the adjustment. It went from a 4 to an 11 and came down to a 2 within about 15 seconds. Note that he did not just jump blindly into this adjustment. We had been working towards it for a while.

Also, the laser treatment is a miracle worker. It will keep my torn meniscus for acting up.

Too much on any sunday or just getting too old for on any sunday.

In case some of you kids dont know what I mean by "On Any Sunday"

Been years, but when I initially fucked my back up it was the only thing that got me back into a relatively normal life. That said, it took some shopping around to find one focused on the physical side of it and not just trying to sell a bunch of snake oil bullshit on the alternative medicine side.

Problem with that is if it's disc issues they don't really show up on Xrays. When I went through disk/nerve issues I got blown off by every doctor I went to. Most aren't interested in doing anything beyond a quick surface level diagnosis they can throw a prescription at.

I go as needed. After my concussion last month, had a few upper neck corrections, made a big difference.
Ever since I started doing arial circus shit a few years ago, all the hanging upside down has helped my back incredibly.

My conscience would zap the fun out of a happy ending

And my anxiety would convince myself I contracted some weird STD i wouldn’t want to explain to my wife.
(how she needs to take antibiotics for my infection… Never a good conversation.)

Good advice in here. I used to go once a month or so for maintenance, but the stretches and being more active has got me down to going as needed when I really do something dumb.
Definitely be willing to hobble out of any chiro office you are leery of. Find a good one, get stuff to stay aligned and then do the exercises and stretching they recommend.
I have an inversion table I’ll use occasionally and an exercise ball that honestly is the best thing.
I also bought a new mattress and that helped tremendously.

I went to one for my neck. Made it worse! I want to go back because I believe in the concept just scared.
