was a company nearby selling propane weed burners that did whole swaths, 500 gallon tank on the 3-point, nozzles every foot or so like a sprayer boom

Also used to accelerate the decomposition of trash/stubble from last year's crop and get those nutrients back into the soil quicker.
Makes planting easier as you don't have to deal with as much stubble/trash in the field.

Controlled burns are also a requirement in certain CRP agreements. It used to be every 3 years you had to burn off your fields. I know you still have to, but I’m not sure how often now. I know some farmers do it every year. Local FD’s will come watch the burn for you for a donation to the department.
