Talking about being at the worst possible place at the wrong time!! Something like this almost makes me believe that when it's your time its your time.

Reading this story made me think someone here has to have a good story that they survived..

RIP to the parents and prayers to the surviving kiddos.

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. – California authorities say a towering redwood tree fell on a car as a couple drove on a scenic highway of the state’s northern coast, killing the parents of five children.

SFGate.com reported Monday that the freak accident happened last week when the 175-foot-tall tree fell on Highway 199 in an area heavily forested with the trees near Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park.

A GoFundMe page to support the children says Jessica and Jake Woodruff were taking the drive to celebrate her 45th birthday when tree fell on March 25.

A California Highway Patrol officer says officials don’t know why the tree fell. Winds were light at the time.

Did not plan on hitting Deer 4 times and a cow once but when they run into your way or you come around a corner and a herds in your way that's how it goes. I hit em instead of going in the ditch or over an embankment.t

In HS, my mom had a hairdresser that was "the only person in town" capable of doing her hair right. The hair dresser lived near her shop, and would walk to and from work. A truck passed her on the way home one day, and an asphalt roller with the 4-5' drums snapped its chains, hopped off the trailer, and promptly ran her over.

My friends grandma was ran over and killed by a truck tire that rolled away from a tire shop.

My old Matco guy was at the shop 2 doors down when a trailer with an excavator on it came loose and rolled 1/4 mile down a hill and fukin wrecked his truck.
like ripped it in half.
Luckily he wasn't in it but I think it put him out of business...

Not quite like the others, but i was on my way to work about 5 years ago. The route would take you under an overpass where i had to make a left onto the on ramp. I had to be at work for 6, so it was probably 530 and still dark. As i am pulling up to the red i see a guy in the opposite lane on the ground rolling around. Looks like he is in pain, but i assume he is on drugs so i dont get out. Guy in a vehicle to the right of me who would be heading straight gets out and runs over to help him. I am sitting there watching, and still waiting on a green arrow so i can turn. I see lights starting to come down the road. Sitting there thinking "well obviously this person see two people in the road that he is about to hit". That just keeps racing through my head and i start wondering if i am going to have to slam into this car to stop it. Cant afford an accident as i was just out of the military, bought a house, was poor and didnt have money to replace a vehicle. All this is racing through my mind while waiting for what seems like minutes to see the car slow and brake lights. I froze up and this car never slows and slams into the two people. One goes under the car, the other over and gets thrown toward my truck.

Get a green arrow and turn and frantically call 911. Driving to work shaking from what i saw and basically yelling at the dispatcher to send an ambulance. The lady listens to me explain what just happens, then says it is a different jurisdiction and says i have to be transferred. Get to explain what happened to another person who finally says they will send EMS.

Later read about it in the paper. Guess there was a road rage incident that ended up with the guy on the ground getting hit and left. Person who got out was a paramedic or something and was trying to help. One died and the other was seriously injured. Was scrubbing chunks off my truck for a while. Always wish i could go back to that moment and slam my truck into the car to stop it.

ETA: Now i will never stop to help people if there is any traffic around a city. I tell my wife if she ever gets a flat tire to call me or someone else to change it and NEVER get out of the car on the side of the road. I used to stop and help people, but after seeing this i no longer do

This one time i was leading a robotics convention after my tripple shift at nasa piloting the mars rover while simotaniously filming a documentary about a videographer with turrets syndrome. Anyhow the 14 model girlfriends i had were waiting for me outside and when i walked out to meet them there were like 4 drive by shootings. Now i didnt get shot... i think its because im like 7'9" and 367lbs of muscle and just scare people. So i jumped in my 14" lifted f150 competition winning 4x4 and peaced out.

Did anyone get shot excessively?

So, artsyfartsy, TJQueef, Alfred, and the Land Rover dude all rolled into one? Can we actually stand that much awesome in one fucking place?

My sil and bil's friend got hit by a loose tire and wheel on the highway while riding his motorcycle. Killed instantly.

Same scenario as the op happened in our town. Big windstorm knocked a bunch of trees down. One landed on a guy while he was driving. Same outcome. Same storm actually killed a few people by falling trees.

I was walking in my yard, full stride and got hit with bird shit. 1 second earlier or later and I would have missed the poop.

But can you build a fireplace?

I was late for work, 5am, dark af, light rain, I'm about to crest this little hill, and I notice red and blue lights reflecting off of the power lines, not the poles but just a glimpse on the wires themselves, I get on the brakes and kinda keep it just shy of skidding. There was a big wreck on the other side of this tiny hill, and a half a dozen cop cars, ambulances etc. Probably 100 feet of stopping distance once you see the lights

Its a long story, but I ended up saying I do.

Me too. :homer:

About 12 years ago I was driving semi pulling a reefer cruising up I5 south of seattle and I saw a green dodge truck sitting on the south bound shoulder crooked. It was probably 3/4 mile away and I thought to myself wtf is causing it to sit funny? About that time I saw a tire fly into the air heading my way. I'd just done a mirror check because I needed the next exit and knew there was a black mercedes to my right and some white car to my left so all I could do was hold the wheel tight, lean to the right and close my eyes. The tire slapped the cab fripping the top half of the mirror off, rolling the drip rail down the length of the cab, shattered the door glass, broke the fairings off the back of the cab and spiderwebbed the FUUUUCK out of the drivers windshield. It bounced off the trailer too but only exploded the light box and dented trailer corner. That was a cold drive over the pass the next day, at least it wasn't snowing hard.

My BIL's family is from Louisville. We were hanging out on Derby day a few years ago and I took a HUGE bird shit to the left shoulder. His dad was calling in some off-track betting, so I told him $5 on Mind That Bird to win, at some pretty long odds. The horse won, but OTB odds maxed at 15:1, so I won $75.

Overpass was being rebuilt in pa. 60mph traffic flowing underneath girder or beam just failed under its own weight falling on a car killing the driver. After that no more traffic under overpasses being repaired.

Im driving under an overpass is santa cruz in my wifes car when i see what looks like a big rock fall right in front of me and i run it over. Confused i pull to the side a couple hundred yards up. Right behind the big rock (chunk of concrete k rail that got launched) was a semi truck following it over the edge that landed right behind me. When i stopped and looked back it took a while to comprehend what happened. My first though was that the semi truck jackknifed trying to avoid the rocks. He walked away from it

Few years ago my brother was driving north on I-49 south of KC heading into a meeting for work. he's running the speed limit with traffic and said suddenly he sees a truck in front of him run over a piece of pipe or steel about 3-4' long. the steel is kicked up about eye level and is doing the helicopter in his lane. He said he laid over in the seat and it spun just as he went past and it blew out the driver's side backseat window in his wife's ZJ he was driving.

so while not fatal it could have been ugly.

Honestly the confusion lasted to long. I was kinda in disbelief when i figured it out. If you look in the upper left of the picture you can see how far back it blasted through the wall
