What's new

What's your favorite drinking whiskey? Not shooter or mixer

Currently off the sauce but Templeton Rye was my go to

Angels Envy is good too if you can get over the bottle that looks like an affliction t shirt

Those Mexicans make the best IMHO

I like the better CC and better Forty Creek stuff as mentioned earlier. Weisers will do too.

Yes, I'm biased to a good rye.

If we're going scotch, it's Lagavulin for me.

Makers mark 46
Basil Hayden’s
Redemption
Woodford double oaked
I think I’ve got one more in the cabinet but I don’t feel like getting up to go look

I prefer rye for sipping. Bulleit Rye is a good option but after several tasting flights last time I was in Louisville I added George Dickle rye to the liquor shelf. Blown away by the flavor for being 1/4 the price of some of the others in the row.

Angels Envy if someone else is buying

And for mixing - 40 Creek. 1/3 40 creek with 2/3 jesus's own lemonaide is perfect for a southeast summer (or fall, winter or spring) day. Just plan ahead if you want it on sunday

Yep. I never came across a whiskey or bourbon I didn't like. I never found a scotch I could tolerate. They all taste like tire fires to me
I'm the opposite, I've not found a bourbon I like the taste of but can happily drink (good) scotch by the bottle.
Like anything though it can take some experimenting to find what suits your taste the best. I don't find super smoky whisky pleasant either so I drink stuff that isn't. IME Glenfiddich 15yo would be a good one to try if you're a bourbon drinker as it's quite sweet and easy drinking for a scotch. Personally I like the suff that comes out of the Isle of Jura distillery, not always traditional as they like to play about with using different casks during the aging process. I'm quite liking their red wine cask stuff at the moment.

I can drink Monkey Shoulder which has a slight smoke taste to it. Laphroaig is like eating pure peat smoke.

I LOVE Laphroaig 10 year. Tastes like band aids, wet sand, a campfire with a tire burning in it, and medical waste. That combination can't be beat.:smokin:
Band aid fire is the best description I could never think of for scotch. Thanks for that :barf:

I did a Kentucky trip and toured several distilleries. The only thing I came back with was Peerless. Specifically, 3 bottles of a single barrel Rye that tasted like delicious, and I'm not typically a fan of Rye. I also brought home a couple bottles of their double oak. Dang near impossible to find in Iowa. Second place in my opinion was Angel's Envy, but I can find that local. Maker's Mark was good, Jim Beam, Woodford and Old Forrester were a solid "meh".

Otherwise, my normal goto has been Johnny Walker green label.

edit: I didn't care at all for Evan Williams. I have a couple friends who really liked it but it all tasted like gasoline to me. Your palate may vary.

A lot of places also had the "finished" bourbons in either rum or wine casks. I couldn't taste any distinction at all, at least not enough to justify the price.

laphroiag for scotch

lots of good booze out there, but, these are the 'sure things' for me.
For martinis, I prefer Vodka and for vodka, I choose Tito's.

Costco had 100 proof? bourbon I liked. Dont see them anymore. Forgot the name of it though. Bummer

Whistle Pig 12 year is my go to but it’s pricey. I’ve been drinking the Breckinridge port cask pretty regularly lately for economic reasons and it’s damn good as well.

If you are ever in the Nashville area, swing by leatherwood distillery and grab a bottle of fucklehead. It’s so damn good.
