What's new

what's your favorite blackand white movie?

Freaking Clerks and Raging Bull, already been said.

There's also some silent movies that are well worth the watch. They're really hard to stay awake for, but they're kinda haunting. Nosferatu is beyond creepy, and Metropolis is worth watching just to see what people from the 20's thought the future might hold. There's something really weird about watching movies where you know the actor's grandkids are at least middle-aged, and some downright old.

I stopped on a silent movie from the 20s on TCM a couple years ago and told my daughter that when it was made her grandparents were toddlers. A few minutes later the Chandelier over the Dining table started to swing back and forth in big arcs, no one had been anywhere near it and the ceiling fan switch string hanging a few feet away was totally motionless. Now that was really weird.

non of them if they were so great they would remake in color

Arsenic and Old lace (1944). I watched that movie a lot as a kid.

Fail safe (1964).

Run Silent, Run Deep (1958).

Francis Joins The Navy (1955).

The Caine Mutiny (1954).

Mister Roberts (1955).

All the old war movies, with a special shout out to Run Silent Run Deep.

I also liked The Hustler

and Captain Courageous (1937)

Where John Wayne rides across the tarmac in a Vietnam era M151, in a WWII era film.

And your point ? Oh yeah, it's on top of your head. Lots of movies have stupid shit like that in them. Doesn't make the movie bad.

Dr Strangelove also, the Asshole starring {gary} :flipoff2: Yes, he is that old :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Remember: you're arguing with the nutsack that lied about electrifying a political sign a few years back.
Obviously, historical accuracy isn't quite as dear to him as his protest would imply. Or just hypocrite

Can you imagine how much he shrieks in rage when the duke smashes a toy gun against a tree in The Green Berets?

Metropolis captures every young boy's mind. Metropolis keeps on giving, high or straight, drunk or sober. Every single SciFi film is Metropolis.

And ............................... In Harm's Way

Pornography.

Not a single model survives from this film, human or plywood. John Wayne, Burgess Meredith, Kirk Douglas.

Combines the Battle of Savo Island, the Battle Off Samar, the Battle of Surigao Strait, into one story.

James Hornfischer's 'Neptune's Inferno' and 'Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors' combined in one film.

I seriously want Michael Bay to die before the Battle Off Samar is depicted on film again. Ground pounders get all the glory, but WW2 was won in the water.

WWII was won on the blood drenched earth at Stalingrad, Kursk and the Vistula. In the skies over England and later over the continent. And in two instant bright flashes over the squat tan men in the mushroom hats.

The Battle Off Samar as depicted in 'In Harm's Way'.

Yamato taking one on the tip.

Bullshit. It was a combined effort in the pacific. All the naval action wouldn't have meant shit without the ground pounders physically taking the islands to be used as advance bases.
