POS GE died for the last time. Nothing but problems.

Looking for a replacement to what we have is 3500-4K now. No way I’m spending that. A cheap China brand is over 1k.

So, used commercial? True? 800-1k gets a used one.

How obnoxious will it be? We have a chest freezer so looking at a standalone fridge now. Plus the drawer freezers with “defrost” kill the food faster. We need a lot of fridge room with so many kids.

My recommendation. $200 used refrigerators. I keep 3 fridges at all times. 1 in the kitchen, 1 for drinks in the garage, 1 in the shop. The ones I bought second hand have lasted longer than anything new.

Every single new stainless steel model we've bought over the past 10 years have had issues. The samsung one has broken 5 times and we got it lemon lawed..

Mine is a 15-20yo Kenmore. One of the last basic 'workhorse' fridges made. I forget what my garage fridge is, but its got to be 30yo. Zero issues with either one.

We just put Bosch appliances in our kitchen remodel. Replaced our GE stuff which was absolute fucking garbage.

Edit: The Bosch stuff wasn't cheap and if any of it shits the bed my wife is going to get an earful of "I told yas". Seems to me like everything is crap now.

I bought a Fisher and Paykel earlier this year to replace a failed Kenmore. It has no water or ice features. French doors, lower freezer. Very simple, but bloody expensive. I got it on sale for $3000. Its literally the only model on the market with no ice or water features.

I’m looking at True. What you’d find at a restaurant. I don’t think they are computerized at all.

We have a nice house-fridge, but wanted more cold storage in the pantry. We bought two matching Frigidaire units that can convert between fridge and freezer. Pretty awesome. 20 cu ft so they're dang big too.

I did not know you could lemon law a fridge:laughing:
After you pay to get it repaired 3 times, we opted to get our money back. No problems for a while then 2 weeks ago it locks up and freezes the inside coil.

Also, Depending on if you have the room, its cheaper to buy a fridge without an icemaker and buy a standalone ice maker. They aren't that expensive and are awesome for filling coolers in the summer time.

I had a repair guy that was working on my Samsung washing machine tell me once, never buy LG or Samsung large appliances. They make great TVs and phones, but suck bad at anything big. He said by far they are the brands he gets the most calls for.

It's amazing what the big box stores will mark down the scratch and dent stuff if it sits for awhile. I bought a maytag for something like 75% off because it had a tiny crease and they didn't have the matching appliances to complete the set. Have had good luck with maytag in general.

I have not had good luck with the cheap no frills upright and chest freezers, Not a big deal money wise but when it's something you're not in every day that can turn out bad. Lost hundreds of pounds of processed game meat and salmon/halibut both times they died. Fridge you'd probably catch earlier though.

Very limited experience with commercial, but we did buy a newer commercial fridge and glass door beverage cooler type fridge for the lake from a restaurant that was going out of business and they were loud, used an unbelievable amount of power and only lasted a few years.

We bought a "commercial" grade Maytag washer and dryer so we could wash my son's comforter easily and regularly due to his allergies.

Even bought the extended warranty, 5 years.

Just under 6 years, they both took a shit, at the same time. Assholes at the place we bought them charged us 1 full service charge and a partial to look at both machines. And of course since they were out of the warranty period they wouldn't do a thing.

Wife went to another dealer and I think we ended up with GEs. None of this shit lasts more than 5-7 years, why spend the big bucks.

This, we’ve been going with “if they make phones, they can’t do reliable appliances” as the first order of business.

Current Whirlpool has been problem free for about 4 years. Bought from a local appliance shop, not a big box store.

Pay attention this is about fridges. Your washer dryer problem is easily solved by buying speed queen top load washer and conventional dryer. No front load washer garbage.

Subzero, same basic design for the last 40 years all the parts are relatively easily replaceable, but most importantly available.

Two weeks ago, my Samsung washer took a crap, required a new control board. Five years old.

This week, my Samsung washer has an error of the water level will be too high, Leaking water on the floor and the drain pump making a terrible racket was there’s nothing in the pump.

These appliances certainly won’t be going into our new house

We bought this one in February so don't know yet about longevity but from my research the biggest issue with new one's in the ice dispenser in the doors. ours just has an ice maker in the freezer bottom we have to scoop out but so far so good.

That Youtube video up there by a repairman talks about all the in-door bullshit going out and the best brand of compressor to look for.

If you want it to last, get a box of cold, not an internet-connected as-seen-on-TV multi-use device.

This, since he asked for the Speed Queen equivalent. We have one of them and a Big Chill fridge. Not cheap though

I have always been able to pick up used ones for 1k and give them a good clean change the seals and they have been going strong for 5 or more years. Just picked up a 48 inch model for 700 last week.

I would add DO NOT buy a commercial style restaurant fridge if its for an indoor space. My mother in law thought she would be smart and get one after her residential fridge died. Its a nice fridge, roomy, deep, cools well, its also louder than a 747 on the tarmac when it is running. Loud enough you have to pause what you're watching on TV to wait for it to be done.:lmao:

Have you ever bought a part from SubZero? Bend over and get fucked! But most of the parts are generic, all you need to do is look elseware.
Subzero wanted $1300 for a replacement condensor coil for my wine fridge. Got a generic replacement for $150... :mad3::mad3::mad3::mad3:

I am seriously considering pulling the ice maker out of the fridge. The new stand alone ice makers are really nice. :smokin::smokin::smokin:

That’s something I never considered. I’ve been waiting to come across the perfect deal on a used True merchandiser to use as a dry ager. It would go in my entry way (who wouldn’t want to walk into a house and seen beef primals aging?) between my kitchen and living room.
Wonder how loud they are and if it would be the same trying to watch Tv in the living room.

I keep hearing flood/insurance horror stories about fridges with water hookups. And then they have stupid-spendy water filters to renew. No thanks.

We’ve got a scotsman ice maker, It’s nice, the fridge ice makers are always a cluster.

The ability to buy generic is nice and that it’s even available is even nicer.

No shit.... Friend of mine had to have his finished basement redone because of a leaking fridge. Leaking for over a week and took out the ceiling and carpet. :smokin::smokin::smokin:

I am going to replace the dishwasher water line with steel braid. Kitchen hardwood floors are going in soon. :smokin::smokin:

Don't buy Samsung. Otherwise I don't know what's available

But I did get an under cabinet ice maker that the ex's parents took out of their bar. Never going to have a house without one again. Fresh (not constantly refrozen) ice. Plenty for a bunch of people over, enough for a midsized cooler all the time. It's absolutely worth it. Added a cup filler on the same water line and it's easier and less trouble than the built in crap, plus freed up all that fridge space
