What's On Your Bench?

I just picked this up on a vanquish special with a handful of upgrades. Will probably build it over the next year.

Got the micro deadbolt benched, busted the steering arm
Looks like you just need to tighten the screw on the servo horn, or am I missing something? :homer:
Yeah, doesn't look broken to me. That gap coming off the servo is a servo saver. It's got a little spring in there that pushes back against the bolt and when the steering takes a hit, it allows a little play to avoid busting the little gears in the servo.

You’re probably not missing anything and I’m probably just a newb :flipoff2:

Haven’t taken the time to tear it down yet, just saw what looked like a crack on that “pitman” arm on the steering servo.
Didn’t even think about it being keyed like that :homer:
Damn turnkey crawlers! When you don’t build them yourself you don’t know how to fix them and end up plugging up the trail! :flipoff2:

Was thinking about buying an RC10 40 year anniversary addition. Had one as a kid and if nothing else, I think it would be fun to put together. Even if it ends up just sitting on the shelf.

I've got one still in the box, one of the CC too - pretty neat for a shelfer. If you want either let me know, I'm trying to clear stuff out.

Well ended up tightening that down shortly after I posted this.
Helped a tad, but was only turning well in one direction and was sticky the other way.

The servo ended up giving up the ghost after 2 more “wheeling trips”, sounded like something was sizzling inside

That 3rd trip saw that failure along with busting the rear frame side body clip on the trx4m so now both crawlers are out of commission :homer:

The crawlers are back in action!

The trx4m got aluminum bumper mount/body clip crossmembers and bumpers front and rear, and the scx24 got an aluminum front bumper mount/crossmember and new steering servo.

Very happy with the fit and finish with the $20 no-name amazon bumper set, the Injora stuff too but I wasn’t concerned about those.

That's pretty nice for $25. The aluminum ones from Traxxas are $50!
I'd probably take the hitch off as well; if I leave it on he'll want a trailer to tow behind it

Building a new race car for 2025. Started to price what i needed to rebuild my old one and found this ebay for a couple hundred less than retail. Previous owner started to build it but only got part of the rear end done. I got it built up to the point of building the shocks the last 2 nights after work.

Not sure if i am going to part out my old one for the motor and esc or keep it as a backup.

Yeah Traxxas is proud of their stuff, it looks good though

I’m definitely pleased with them, we’ll see how the chinese aluminum holds up to impacts. My kids are pretty rough on the rigs 😅

What started as some maintenance turned into a total rebuild for the RC crawler. All the tube work is brazed 3/16 brake line.

Originally a SCX-10 chassis, only the gear box, axles, and some of the frame rails remain.

Tubed out the front
Upgraded to 550 style motor and new ESC

I like it! You should get smaller batteries and mount them in the front. I run 2200mah 3s and they are pretty small. It would really benefit your performance.

And now for something completely different....been working on this lately:

I participate in a hobby where we build 1/144 scale ww1/ww2 battleships that are armed with BB guns and are designed to shoot and sink each other (hence the openings in the ship's hull, they're covered with thin balsa to allow BB's through to flood and eventually sink the ship. Just inside the balsa skin is internal armoring to protect the sensitive electronics and all from getting blasted). The hobby has rules regarding construction, "units" to devote to cannons and damage control pumps, etc. Think SORRCA for crawlers. When a ship sinks, everything is waterproofed to survive no worries, just patch up the holes and reload the guns to go again.

This is the SMS Mackensen, an unfinished WW1 german battlecruiser. For reference, Mack is about 61" long. My largest combat ship is the Jean Bart, a WW2 french battleship thats 67" long and weighs 41lb. Largest non-combat "convoy" ship in my shop is actually currently under construction...the liner Queen Mary which is 85" long and one of the largest ships in the world during our time period.

That's pretty sweet, any footage of these battles or is there a name for them?
