What are you guys currently working on or building?

I'm revamping my OG SCX10. This was my first real crawler, before that I had a pile Tamiya TLT1 based thing that couldn't keep axles together.

Prior to this, I had turned it into a Wroncho using Intheworks links and a front AR60 and rear 14 bolt from the SMT10.

Recently it got NWSD Scattergun chassis rails and Dravtech shocks. I'm going back to a stock width axle, using some AR44s I'm trading a buddy a set of 63" springs for.

Otherwise it's pretty basic. MIP driveshafts, Changquish wheels and Showdowns. Holmes Trailmaster and a 1080 esc.

I've got all kinds of shit exploded on the bench but my primary every day running rig is this SCX24. It's built sorta along the lines of a shrunken SORRCA Class 2 comp truck.

Furitek Lizard ESC, RC4WD MT/R Kevlars on SSD 1.0 Slots, Treal overdrive gears in the front, some high clearance links off eBay and the stock shocks relocated so that they are basically just limiting droop. I have Furitek's new brushless conversion setup on pre-order but that's about a month out.

My kid and I both have these POS WPL 1/12 scale deals, he's got a pickup and I've got this FJ40, they're fun but the parts quality is terrible. Building them is a fine balance between keeping shit tight enough to not fall off but loose enough that it doesn't bind up and not move. The GF just bought me an army truck one too, I haven't run it enough to break it... yet.

TrikeKid What motor are you powering with that Furitek esc? Have you had any problems with it? I keep seeing people having issues with them on the FB SCX24 groups, but then again there are some special people on FB.

I'm trying to figure out what motor I want to run in my 24th scale. All my stock ones work but the one in my buggy is getting weak. I was leaning towards a Barrage, as it'll still allow for the interior.

I think I have more fun building the 24th scales than I do running them. We built a little tabletop course inside my shop this winter, which was pretty fun. Now that it's nice out they just sit and the 10th scales get run.

Built this over the winter. It has HPI Savage X diffs/suspension (modular). HPI Baja transmission mounted up as the transfer case. Hand built aluminum frame, and steel cage. The engine is a Rovan 27.5cc 2 stroke gas. Pretty fun truck, goes around 32mph. Redlines at around 19,000rpm it is LOUD!

Stock motor for now. I ordered Furitek's brushless which is a 1400kv 2204 outrunner similar to the Surpass brushless motors. I haven't had any issues with it, the BEC is kinda weak if you're going to run a big steering servo though.

I like it!

I had a couple RAYCO Jackrabbits back in the day.

They came out back in the Stone Age, I had to fill out and mail forms along with a check to get spares.

4-6 weeks for delivery.:lmao:

I've been rocking a Bomber car that I have entirely to much money into.......

It could use a brushless motor/esc combo and a couple new battery packs.

I'm running the Hobbywing Axe 2700kv system in my Bomber style tube buggy. On 3s it's got the perfect balance of control and power. It has no problem baking the tires off, but has really decent low speed control. Would definitely recommend checking into it if you want to repower your Bomber.

I like those proline 24s, super fun. Here's a few pics from the stash.... The nitro 1/8 and rear steer roller have since been sold. Don't have pics of the newer adds to the collection yet

Current set up I'm running. Tamiya SuperDuty hardbody on a G-Speed chassis with axial 10.3 portal axles. Older RC4WD shocks in a droop set up. Wheel base is around 13 inches if I'm remembering right

I was just telling my daughter yesterday about those days.
get a parts book
get your part numbers
fill out the form
write a check
mail it
next month you get it

...then came the 800#'s
you had to talk to strangers on the phone

Unfortunately my full sized stuff has been taking priority and I've not really done much RC'ing since last summer but here's a few of my collection....
1/8 Hobao Hyper VSe
IMG_20180617_125204.jpg

1/10 Turnigy 2wd SCT
IMG_20180329_140102.jpg

1/10 FTX Mauler (RGT Rockhammer in the US) with a few upgrades
IMG_20180716_090943.jpg

1/8 Hpi Trophy Truggy, Muggy conversion with big bore shocks and 1/8 MT wheels
IMG_20200329_182714483_HDR.jpg

A comparison between the 2wd SCT and the VSe that shows how much beefier the 1/8th stuff is compared to the 1/10 :smokin:
IMG_20180317_075258.jpg

And my 1/5 Maverick XB that I dearly miss. I spent weeks rebuilding and restoring it but found I didn't really have anywhere to run it so I traded it for a couple of smaller electric buggies. My biggest regret in the hobby to this day. It's hard to beat the smell and noise of a 2 smoke not to mention the sheer size.
IMG_20180908_162652.jpg

I've got a few other cars and a Trex 450 heli actually on the bench being rebuilt just not been able to put any time into them of late.

Yeah, the 1/8th scale stuff is where it starts to get into "No Joke" territory. My last 1/8th scale buggy took a bad hop and started cartwheeling towords me, went over my head off to the side and smashed in the side of the metal shed.

The buggy was fine, the shed took repairs.

Did I mention i have a shittone of helis?

I may need to seek a support group to try and wean myself off of them.

A small sample.

Last count was 30ish assorted helis, mostly 130X, but some scale and two Roban Super scale AS 350 470's.

Scuse the mess, I had to move a few to get a new table in.

Tearing down my 2 stroke project after running 3 gallons through it. Beefed up the cage a little bit so I can paint it.

I bought a Capra not long ago. It pretty good out of the box.
20210530_082951.jpg

That sparked ADD and I pull out all my old cars and started working on them. First one is a traxxas Nitro Hawk that I have had since the 90s. The other 2 are RC10s that just need electronics.

I had a nitro hawk back in the day

I got it 2nd hand with no pipe and I was too cheap to pony up the $45 for one, so I made one out of copper pipe and soldered it together.

I made it off of dimensions I took off of another pipe and I would say the pipe was a bit peaky, but that would be an understatement.

On pavement the pipe would hit so hard around 12K that it would rev so high only dogs could hear it, and the buggy would do a rolling backflip @ 20mph or so.

It was hilarious, but not very practical.

Ill see if I can find it and shoot a pic.

Thats sick! What trans are you running? A lot of buddies running portals can't find enough gear to get any wheel speed.
Simple 3 Gear vanquish set up with a dig unit and axial gears 56 tooth spur and I wanna say a 13 tooth pinion? But I’m also brushless had a 2200kv roc412 before and loved it but had to switch to a 3300kv Holmes hobbies stubby because of clearance issues not sure if I love it yet kinda wish it had some more low end grunt and the extra wheel speed is kinda useless for this rig

Welded, painted and bolted back together.

I have been out of the RC world for quite a few years, but I still have my few Axial SCX10 based scale crawlers in the basement. I'm likely going to be selling them and just picking up either a SCX24 RTR or building that. I don't use what I have AT ALL anymore...which is a shame because it was a lot of money and time invested. I enjoyed building the bodies the most...hence why all are customized hard bodies.

My first attempt at a hard body...jump right in and build from scratch.
mlZTLmseXWlpRtZo2v1uh_cTY=w1250-h937-no?authuser=0.jpg

Then I had to be different on the crew cab Hilux. I had copied someone on Pirate that made a real version of this that was badass.
LkJg7d08ioLGbVodC7F3DiJvU=w1250-h937-no?authuser=0.jpg

Last was my H3T New Brite.
gOK9EdsA8FsBkid6y-WXd2Ryc=w1250-h937-no?authuser=0.jpg

I could never get the electronics figured out in a way I was happy with on any of these. The Hilux I was plagued with wheelbase issues....mainly because I was cheap and still wasn't sure the best ways to go about CMS and other things. These 3 along with my small Readylift branded 1/16 scale dirt truck have just sat for around 7 years now.

Those 24s are awesome.

I got 3 for my kids, all stock, then wife got me a capra for Xmas. Basically stock, but I added rear steer for extra fuckery :smokin:

My buddy got me into rc's "rock crawling" an emaxx with jb weld diffs, foams removed from the tires and 7t pinions  in like 04?

Ended up helping him build a 1/4" tube buggy with x factor axles and the yuge emaxx trans and dual motors  was pretty awesome for back in the day, but tires were a huge limitation.

Same buddy bought a wheelie king right before the axial stuff came out. Built into a tube chassis eventually.

I built a funky revo axle based rig with 4ws using a cheap emax radio, never really worked great.

Back when we used to cut up and glue different tires to different sidewalls.

Right after the a 10s came out was a blast, all my buddies had them with light mods, so it was like a spec class seeing who could or couldn't make what.

I ruined the E-Maxx I had trying to build a crawler out of it, all I really succeeded at was cutting up a perfectly good basher because I saw a few super class rigs built with locked out e-maxx suspension for axles. The cut-n-shut tires, Jumbo Kongs cut down to basically a tractor tire to crawl rocks I remember being very popular in the mid-late 2000's. That was about when I got into the crawling side of RC, the dark ages before the parts manufacturers started catering to it were fun times.

I’ve never played with one of these professional type RC cars/trucks what would you suggest for a beginner ? They look fun .

Depends what you want. Crawler, basher, go fast buggy? Do you want to take it out of the box and drive it or do you want to put it together yourself and pick the electronics out separately?

If you want a plug and play yet capable crawler right out of the box look at the Axial line.

Get one, they are TONS of fun!

I thought the crawlers looked really cool but so do the go fast buggies . I’ve never pieced one together so I like the idea of being ready out of the box but having upgrades available like I’ve been reading on here !

My first crawler was Tamiya TLT1 based. The TLT1 was a small, maybe 12th scale IIRC monster truck with a belt driven transmission, TVP chassis, and straight axles.

I JB welded the diffs and constantly had trouble with the transmission. I cut up the trans case from a Traxxas Stampede and wedged that between the frame rails. Now I had a working transmission, but I couldn't keep the axles together. It may have been related to the Novak SS5800 brushless I tried running after ditching the Kyosho Magnetic Mayhem 550 motor, or the Imex Red Rock tires, probably both to be honest..I never had much of a good run with it. I took it apart and pieces of it have ended up on other trucks throughout the years.

I do still have the chassis and trans, and I'll have a set of Redcat Gen 7 axles after I put the AR60s under hers, so maybe I can put it back together?

It's really no different than 1:1 stuff. Remember when 9/10 guys you saw on the trail had to shed blood, sweat and cash to build a rig. Even if you do your own welding these days, you can still build a rig with a bunch of store bought shit.
