how do you glue that flexible PVC together? There's gotta be a trick

hackfuck me, I tried using pipe glue, but it didn't want to melt the sheets together, even cleaning with brake cleaner and using an iron to try and mush it all together

"Can I use Schluter with cement board?
For all the substrates listed in this Handbook (e.g., gypsum board, cement backerboard, etc.), Schluter SET™, ALL-SET™, FAST-SET™ or an unmodified thin-set mortar is recommended."

Read it years ago when diving in to doing a shower at my last house.

How do I know if the thin-set mortar is modified or unmodified?

In general, unmodified thin-set mortar is a blend of Portland cement, sand, and water retention agents that is mixed with water by the user. The appropriate product standard for unmodified thin-set mortars is ANSI A118.1. Look for this standard on the packaging (e.g., product meets ANSI A118.1 when mixed with water). Unmodified thin-set mortar may also be referred to as dry-set mortar by the manufacturer.

Modified thin-set mortars are similar to unmodified thin-set mortars, but include additional polymers such as latex. The additional polymers are introduced in either liquid or powder form. In the first case, the user mixes an unmodified or dry-set mortar powder with a liquid polymer additive instead of water. In the second case, the polymers are added by the manufacturer to the dry blend in powder form. The user then mixes the powder with water. The appropriate product standards for modified thin-set mortars include ANSI A118.4, ANSI A118.11, and ANSI A118.15.
I’ve heard one reason why Schluter chose to recommend the unmodified….. because guys would set their rollout underlayment with modified and come back the next day, the mat would slide underfoot!!!!!
We did a test for Daltile (Schluter distributor in Lakewood WA) and set all there products (smaller test pieces) with modified on one set, and unmodified on another, while we we’re on a job….. the unmodified obviously set up faster, but after one week of letting both setup, the modified thinset holding power was unquestionably stronger…. You could pull all the products right up and out of the unmodified!!!!!
Now….. the only Schluter product we set with thinset is the Kerdi liner (pan liner) ….. why would I care about set up time on something as important as, a pan liner????
We flat out will not use there roll out tile underlayment… not even if a builder or customer insists!!!! We won’t do the job!!!! We’ve gone back on other’s failed installs and just rolled that stuff up, right out of the unmodified thinset!!!! Overpriced and vastly overrated compared to other underlayment!!!!

I've never messed with that or other brands of underlayment stuff. I did think about it at my old place because that bathroom floor area was small. Glad I didn't after reading this. It's surprising though, as their other stuff seems great.
