This is probably going to divide IBB more than any other topic.

Cliffs: AZ Deputy shoots abandoned dogs after shelter says no capacity.

There’s more to it if you read the article. Deputy sure didn’t do it because he wanted to. Even said “this is gonna suck” on the body cam footage.
Not going to put up a pole because this is more complicated than just shoot the dogs or not shoot the dogs.

My opinion: I love dogs, have three of them. Dogs aren’t humans. Chances are if those dogs made it to a shelter, fed, possibly rehabilitated, and then would have euthanized the majority of them because they couldn’t find anybody to adopt. Those resources are better spent elsewhere. Deputy made the right call. I’d hate to see him lose his job over this. It was a tough decision.

To add: if you’re spending $10,000 on a dog surgery (or 10k/yr for meds to keep it alive ), please euthanize it and go adopt another dog. Again, I love dogs, but they are still animals. If you really want to spend $10,000, adopt a healthy and donate the rest of the money to the shelter who takes care of them. But it’s your money, do what you want with it.

You’re not gonna convince me I’m wrong, but I would like to hear what everybody else has to say.

It sucks I sure as hell wouldn't have wanted to have to do it but given the circumstances I'd say he did what he had to do. I like how the animal shelter chick tries to backpedal once she found out what happened.

I don’t think I could do it unless they were obviously in dire condition or obviously aggressive without provocation.

Now cats? Line them up. :flipoff2:
I’ve personally seen abandoned, emaciated dogs be friendly when they’re hungry and then get aggressive and violent when they’re fed. It’s a crapshoot, and it sucks. OK with how that turned out, but kind of rooting for the owners to get shot still as well.

Read the article earlier today… sucks all around.

My dog … to me…
It’s worth more than your life.

A stray dog…. Not a lot.
I do feel sad when I have accidentally hit one accidentally .

But if I had to swerve between a hitting a human and a dog, I’d like to think I’d save the human.

When there is no more capacity what else can you do. Some people live in fantasy land and don’t have the capacity to understand we live in a world of limited resources, and sometimes hard choices have to be made. Why else’s are we paying millions a year to house and feed wild horses.

Amazing how people will travel around the world rescuing dogs when local shelters are full
Same with kids, let's go to China and get a kid because there are no kids up for adoption in North America :shaking:
Its pretty simple actually. Depending in who run thebshelter they aren’t adopting out dogs they are selling them. Before the King County shelters went private they wanted hundreds for a used dog with unknown problems. Now that its private, fees are WAY DOWN, they adopt out a fuck ton of dogs because they realize there are tons of good homes out there for a dog but when you tell someone hey I can adopt you a dog for the cost of buying the puppy you want they almost always say fuck off.

Kids are the same thing. It is 10,000’s of thousands of dollars. Hell, I dont know the number but if I remember correct it was over a grand just to apply for approval to potentially get on a list to adopt a kid. Have Guns in the home? Nope. Have street bikes or “race cars”? Nope. Thats why people go overseas to adopt kids.

People who dump dogs suck. It’s cruel, irresponsible, and selfish. Shoot it yourself instead of making it some one else’s problem or leaving it to starve or get run over.

I generally like dogs more than people, but I’ve shot a few when I had to. It sucks and given the choice I’d rather have shot the people responsible.

I don’t fully buy that the life of one animal is worth more than another’s just because it can talk and has thumbs. A lot of people are worthless. I’ve been ready to shoot somebody over cattle before.

Why didn’t they call peta? Or would they shoot them too like they did years ago?
PETA probably woulda killed them also.

People are ditching their "covid" pets now that they are (probably) back to work or no longer WFH. Or they can no longer afford to feed them and pay vet bills for their shots so they can go to public kennels. Shelters are filled up or filling up.

We live in an area where it's pretty common that dogs get dropped off out on a gravel road. We've seen litters of pups dropped off at least a half dozen times. I love dogs, have 3 labs, but there comes a time when dogs just need put down instead of making them someone else's problem.

There are worse ways to die than a bullet. I think a bullet is very humane.

Love dogs, put plenty of dogs down with a bullet or euthanasia. Both suck, but to see an animal suffer is worse.

To me dogs are a tool. If they are not going to alert, jump in to protect me or my family, then I will be looking for a different dog.

Would not want to be the officer. Bad enough to do the job, then be hated for it.

You've never known anyone who tried to adopt a kid. It's not uncommon to spend $25k+ and waiting years. It's a racket, and as usual people realized they could go to an orphanage in Asia and get a kid for $1k or less.... :homer:

I keep hearing 35k between government bullshit, lawyers and agencies all skimming you.

How does that commercial go? “Did you know there are over 400,000 kids in the foster care system in the US”?

As others have said that would be a hard choice. Dogs are usually good people. People generally suck.

I've put dogs down a few times. It's not a good time, but needs to be done sometimes. Some of them I was much sadder about than others. Same goes for cattle or any livestock.

I usually put my own animals down. It sucks, but you agree to take care of them to the end when you get them. In my opinion, it's better for the dog to be put down where they are comfortable rather than in a vet's office. That's just my opinion not a dick so don't take it real hard.

If the population needing care has grown beyond the ability to care for them, then they needed to be put down. I value my good dog over about any stranger on the street. My young heeler just went blind. I'm going to be giving her drops 3 times a day for the rest of her days. She's been right by me keeping me smiling through the shittiest part of my life. The drops only keep her from hurting, they don't restore or keep her sight. That's fine by me, she's worth it.
