What's new

What did you do to your yota today?

Checked the heads flat. And laid out the gaskets, missing a couple. But should start assembly next week

Need to buy one of those for the tacoma.

Sander discs for getting shit cleaned up an a flap wheel for blending. Leave the hard wheels for the farmers:flipoff2:
Used a sanding disc on the majority, and a flapper. I just got annoyed and said screw it. Found out the welder didn't like getting towards the end of the spool.

The original goal was not to have to grind any of the welds down. That plan failed miserably.

Why I'm not a professional :flipoff2:

Forgot I started this:lmao:

Ordered all new rotors for the Runner. Went to put them on and saw the front pads were only worn on their inner diameter. Fuck! Oh, Really's gave me the wrong rotors last time and I didn't notice when I slipped the calipers back on.

New front rotors on the way and just ordered a full set of OME shocks and the original Tokico shocks have bit the dust (or collected it all in the spilled oil).

All post pics when I get this stuff done.

Put the new rotors on all four corners. New front pads. We concluded that Oh Really's had actually given me the incorrect front calipers. There's two different sizes of rotors and calipers for the 4th gen 4Runner. They gave me the larger calipers, and I had put them on without noticing that my wife's SR5 takes the smaller set. Slapped new pads on with the larger rotors and now it stops better than ever

Didn't rain most of the day....
Now My 1st gen has a 80s/90s football helmet face mask for an exo. All DOM. She's toight boys. Still front tube work and down tubes under the fenders, but has braille rails now and only added 70 pounds. 😂

Nut/bolt/fluid check, greased the u joints, rotate tires, and finished (good enough for now) welding the new rear bumper just in time for a trip to the Rubicon this weekend.

attempted to adjust the front C/O's on the doublcab... found this on driver's side.

Howd you manage that ?
No clue...
They've been on the truck for probably 50K miles. Old Donahoe racing C/Os that the PO installed. Couldn't figure out why the driver's side was squishy and always set lower... now I know.

Pulled the trigger on bilsteins w/ OME coils - assembled - for $310... I think the price is a typo - way cheaper than anything else i found - we'll see.

well... FML...
Got the CO's pulled... and of course, I see split boots. Fine.. f-it. Buy a rebuild kit from Toyota Parts Deal.
Well, crap... the LBJ's are about 60k miles old... sure... I'll do them as well.

And that's where crap went sideways...

Three of the nuts holding the wheel spacers on stripped on the outside. Dunno if it's grade 2 crap or what... So now I have wheel spacers that I can't seem to get off. Tried welding nuts... no go. Heat... no go... Going to try a lug extractor but these already require a thin wall socket...
So I'm walking away for a bit and will revisit in the AM. May end up surgically cutting these things off and trying to save the wheel bearing assembly. Thought about just replacing the entire hub (overkill, I know), but I can't find any pre-assembled that look work a crap.

spring pics... It's been this way for a good long while, I think.

Spent another day without EMU shocks for the 4Runner. Gonna have to call Summit to see if they know where they're at.

Put in some new All-Gear front springs this last weekend to hopefully fix the drivability issues on the sas'd 3rd gen. Sorta helped. Shackles are dicked but JUST how important is it that the shackles are parallel with each other?

Just make sure they are not pointed straight at the ground, they need some kick back to help the spring travel.

Got the OME's on the wife's runner. Fronts were a bit of a bitch. Wish the fronts had come with new upper bushings, but whatever.

Called up Summit about them a few days ago. Got some chuckles out of the situation. Apparently ARB had sent them out right away, but sent them to a distributor warehouse in WV or something. They overnighted more shocks to me.

Ride is much more solid, though I think I still heard some knocking. Almost 400k on the OE shocks.

Today…

Cut out an outer tie rod.

I should have just ordered a TG SAS kit and been done.

Because I know you all care... :flipoff2:
Got everything together yesterday. Pulled front 1/2 of skid place to change engine oil/front diff. Figured no reason to pull the back 1/2 to change the tcase fluid... Wrong. Two hours of clean up later...

Put Rad Rubber Splash Guards in place to replace my long-missing ones... Quality stuff. And now I can no longer see my leaking valve covers. :flipoff2:

Pulled truck out of barn to put some miles on before alignment... Radiator leak at the upper tank. Fawk. Ordered replacement.
And.... i got the wrong front springs. My fault. :homer: So correct springs on order.

The 83 finally shit the bed , detailing the interior...
