What's new

What did you do to your RV today?

For reference the solar panel is the front of the trailer and sleeping area. The ladder is the rear. I just added the solar panel this summer, and the old one was in front of the Cameco fridge cover to the right of the AC unit.
The internet tells me this made the inside of the trailer cooler. I don't expect it to be noticeably cooler. I just hope this makes someone want to buy it.

In total it was 1 day of prep and two days of 45 minutes laying down a coating. It sucks because it's 95 degrees and I'm taking my time to do a good job. It might be more enjoyable inside a covered area, or it might take longer to dry. My neighbor said she wanted to pay me to do hers. I don't know what I should charge outside of $100/day.

That looks great, worth it I'd say.

My rubber roof is "gummy" like something reacted with the rubber to dissolve it:confused:
I haven't overly cleaned it, but I have used some very mild detergent on it a few times since it was new in '13.

I think I'll eventually pull the rubber off and just coat the roof in rubber like you did?

And... the new AC unit is STILL tripping the breaker at some point during the night.

I got sick as shit last week and I thought I'd try setting up sick camp in the RV.
It worked awesome, really dark and quiet. The AC will start/stop all day long but at some point in the night (After midnight)
the AC tripped the NEWLY installed 20a circuit breaker. :mad3:

I emailed Furrion tech support, I really just need to make sure this is resolved under warranty...

There are multiple ways to pull the rubber of. Pressure washing it the way I did seems the least labor intensive and the most time consuming, but maybe it is because I have this running problem of thinking I need professional level work for an unprofessional product. Plenty of people scrubbed it with a firm brush. No one ever said how much time they spent doing it with any research I did. I spent a solid 8 hours on the roof of my trailer with the pressure washer. I actually overheated mine a few times because I didn’t want to bring th pressure washer on top of the trailer so it was pumping water up 15 ft in at 2,000 PSI. This might be a little much from a Ryobi electric pressure washer. 🤣

Mine only has discoloring from when I foolishly taped flexible solar panels directly on the roof. The heat yellowed the fiberglass roof, and burnt up the panels. I plan on eventually using some type of coating, but there are other things I should be doing that actually need fixing.

I would be hesitant to use a power washer on the roof, but I won't use one on the sides because I'm afraid it will strip the decals.

I scrub the roof about once a year with a few ounces Simple Green in a gallon of water. I have a car washing scrub brush that I think is too stiff to use on cars or the sides for the roof. I am also using it mostly in dry climates so no mold.
Putting the new AC up there I noticed the rubber is "dissolved" I assume the reason it absorbed the "red dirt" so badly.

It's still glued down and sealed so I'm probably not gonna fuck with it until its questionable.

I really didn't take any pics, but I replaced my Coleman MAch 3 13.5k A/C (from 2016) unit with a Mach 15, 15k unit.
Complete bolt in swap, nice to have A/C again.

I put a service port on my unit A/C, pressures would spike randomly so I felt there was a clog in there somewhere. No one wants to deal with parts and service so I just bought a new one.

For the Brisk II I took off I bought some of the supco service valves to add on the existing line, not sure I believe in this technology but I want to check the pressures before opening the system. I might braze on a real port if I determine where its leaking or if I think I can fix it.

I bought the same type of tap, I JB welded around the o ring saddles as well for fear of leaks.
IT didn't leak the the whole month it was there until it hit the dump...

That's a good idea. If I can get this thing working on I might put it on my garage or maybe on my bedroom just a s supplement to the main.
A trailer this size really should have two units anyway.

Changed the engine oil, filter and belts. Alternator works again right off start up and the noise is gone

Went underneath and the transmission pan was leaking from 3 corners. New filter & gasket and it seems to be not doing that anymore.

Guess it's ready to hit the road.

Went ahead and bought some 80" aluminum ramps off Amazon for the trailer. I'm just never going to get around to cutting some up. 3klbs rating per ramp, hopefully it's somewhat close to that.

Not going to get time to look into why the A/C is tripping the wiring or fixing the front cap or finish re sealing all the windows, oh well. Try again next year. Friday, 1600 miles to roll

What's your setup again?

I got to see the spindle real good but not sure what it's attached to or what you're pulling with it

1993 Tioga 30 foot class C. E350 chassis, EFI 460 & E4OD to dana 70 w/4.88 and probably a few shims worked loose by now

Towing my 2 axle 7klbs 20' tag trailer, the boards from the middle to the rear have opened up significant gap since going to Idaho with the f350, should be fine with the Fox Body and staying on the highway though.

I still strongly prefer tow bar to trailer, but I'll also take my chances with the fox body for 1600 miles back by myself vs the wife's escape. Escape has less comfortable driver seat and doesn't hang 75/80 mph as well

Well that's a terrible picture  conflicted, I probably should've loaded the car backwards on the trailer, but the back half of my trailer is really screaming for help. Dang rear landing legs got pinched or some such at some point and are stuck up.

Going to weigh it after a couple hundred miles and see what the axle weights are. If the rv rear axle is not as heavy as when I had the f350, I'll ride it as is

It's a real shame truck scales cost so much. If they only cost 500 for a set of 6 we'd probably all own a set for these sorts of shenanigans.

Ok, time to fess up. What I did to my RV today was…. Used it to back over my fucking mailbox. Got the RV and trailer out of the drive, then went to back up to pick up my wife. Was trying to hug the side of the street like usual, cussing the glare from the sun on my mirrors. No problem, just keep backing up blind like a retard. Hit the brick mailbox with the trailer. Toppled the fuck out of that, broke some of the limestone on it, and then said fuck it and headed out of town. Didn’t even scratch any paint on the trailer. 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, I’m retarded, my neighbors have new extra evidence of that, and I just left the mess all sitting where it landed.

Damn dude way to start a trip LOL

I back under my rv shed blind and I feel like i'm definitely going to join that club someday.
I will occasionally reach up and switch to the camera on the back of the camper but often I just say fuck it and go blind.

If my wife would have been with you she would have gasped so many times you would have to get out and look

Friday of Labor day weekend 2016, second or third trip with my current Dodge, things were going way too smoothly. Got down to the campsite earlier than we ever had. I wasn't used to the new 5th wheel hitch, there was some pressure on the kingpin and I couldn't pull the handle out to unhitch the trailer. I pulled harder, and caved in the bedside of my truck with my gut. That's when I realized how flimsy the 2015 bedsides were compared to my old '97. PDR guy was able to fix it, can't really tell.

Maiden voyage with our "new" 5th wheel Memorial day '21. Trip went well, until I got home. I was backing the camper into the yard, and forgot that the nose on the new one didn't have as much clearance as our old one. Crunched the back corner of my cab, didn't hurt the trailer. Got the sheet metal pretty good, but didn't break the window. Took it in to the body shop in the winter after camping season.

The cab crunch is the worst, and really common.

You don't hear about the cab crunch from the pro 5er crowd though.

Yep. I knew it didn't turn as sharp as my old trailer, just didn't think about it in the moment. Rearward visibility sucks with a mega cab. After I did it, I noticed a lot more trucks with blown out back window and/or damaged c-pillars.

That was a fun one to explain to the insurance guy over the phone.
So you hit your bumper?
No, the cab (then explain to him how a 5th wheel works)
Ok. Was anyone else in the truck?
Yes, my son was in the back seat.
Was anyone injured?
No, just my pride. I was going <.5 mph.

I was just glad it was still watertight, so I could use my truck the rest of the summer. Body shops here are always booked up in the summer with hail damage cars.

The next trip out I had 4 of the kids spotting me pulling out of my camp spot in the trees.

And ditto your comment on the wife above. :cool2:

No cab crunch, did manage to crunch a post though :homer:

Turning from a narrow road into a narrow gate needing to make a u turn, trying to keep the rear tires amd trailer tires out of the ditch, kissed the fence post

Played around with thr fuel stops. If I target 70-75mph crusing, I also get mid 5 mpg amd average 50 mph [900 miles in 18 hours]

If I target 60-65mph cruise, I get low to mid 7mpg and average 56 mph [700 miles in 12.5 hours]. It is not only cheaper, it is also faster to go slower

Without the trailer and with the 4.1 gears instead of 4.8, it would cruise 70mph around 10mpg.

What Mileage log is that, I like that better than what I've been using

"Fuelio"

Free version android app. Easy to use without built in advertisements. Since it shifts better with the speedometer disconnected, I'm using the mileage off the Garmin:laughing: works well and the RV is the only thing we ever use the big Garmin with

I used to always push 70-75. I found that I enjoy the drive more cruising mid 60’s. 63-65 keeps me in the right lane with fewer lane changes. Mileage is better and unless going cross country, in the scope of things, the time difference is minimal. After all, we are supposed to be enjoying the drive.

Now, heading out to Sand Hollow next month with a 30+ hour drive, we will be running low 70’s.

The biggest factor I found when doing 500+ mile trips is you pass the same people that are running 75+ when you go 65.

It's counter intuitive for sure but the avg mph matters a lot.

Yeah I figured I'd see if it would eek out some higher averages and it did not

Going back now in the car with cruise at 75mph and 24 mpg is a while different animal :rasta:
