What's new

What did you do for your ford today?

What do I do with old parts I'm accumulating?

The list ('94 Bronco) :

PS pump, gearbox, and bracket
Interior spare tire carrier
AC pump
rear bumper
coil springs
Many individual leaf springs

Two options is donate them to a local junk yard, or just throw them away.🤷‍♂️

Use the ac compressor for on board air.

Keep or scrap the rest, leaves don’t take up much space and are good to have around.

Just bought a core e4od for $200 :homer: haven't seen anything cheaper pretty much anywhere. Anything "known good" regardless of miles seems to be $500.

Oh well, now it can sit in my garage for a year or two

and got the transmission for the farm truck inspected and resealed.

Going to reinstall the AC pump just to give it a place to store.

I might install the interior spare tire carrier.

Finished wire brushing the cab back part of the frame and got it all painted up. Installed the front tank and ran the new lines to both tanks. I was way overthinking that shit. When I get back from florida on the 25th gotta start wiring the e fuel kit and run the last two lines.

first attempt at painting a vehicle... 3 coats of base, 4 coats of clear. More orange peal than the entire state of florida...

But overall, not bad for using the $14.99 Harbor Freight HVLP and the cheapest paint I could find locally. It may get wet sanded... it may not... depends on ambition and desire to wet sand the rest of the truck. Which is currently non-existent.

Good looking truck from 25 ft away. Just like mine.

How much did you sand between coats base/final?

What'd you use for a primer?

Sanded primer with 600. Used two different aerosol primers. Ended up sanding most of the first primer off.

I only sanded a run out of the first coats of base. The owner of the pair store warned against sanding this brand too much. It’s cheap paint.

I got stupid(er) this afternoon. Pulled all the plastic down… figured I’d throw the fuel doors on the fender. Bad idea. The clear is soft AF. One door has three nice prints on it now. :homer:

If I ever do another vehicle… different primer. Higher quality paint (my cousin who is painting my xcab is a Sikkens user/former rep)… and I’ll do it when it’s hotter outside so it can be rolled out to bake in the sun.

I did this mostly for the experience… and because the only local body shop who would look at it wanted $3600 to paint the fenders/bedsides….

Back when I had my '99.5 PS F-350; I went through two UBs before I said F-this and bought the Dynatrac bearing conversion kit.
Last two dodges I owned I did a spyntec conversion. And i sold the trucks after saying I would keep them a long time. Trying not to Jinx Myself. It doesn't seem a appealing being I already have locking hubs. I've already got two other dana 60 front, and one dana 44 I need to go thru and re-pack bearings etc. on as it stands now

All I Can figure is when I greased these unit bearings 15k or so ago I didn't use the right grease? I know they weren't oem by the look of them, PO put them on. I bought truck at 169k, it has 215 on it now.

With or without the gasket?

I like that the gasket hides the imperfections of the glass fenders. And the boss says it pulls in the black from the door trim.

But…

We’re debating if it reads too “kit car.” Not like that really matters.

With gasket gets my vote. I think it cleans up the line

Picture w/o is just hanging on a couple of bolts… so there is still a ton of adjustment that is needed. (Edit: hanging about 1/4- 3/8” low in the pic)

But I agree that the gasket hides a lot.

Even if it was tighter, it's still a hard transition in my eyes. Gasket gives it a softer and we'll defined line.

I agree.

Edit: talked with my cousin (auto body shop owner) and gasket is in….

Still torn on the gasket, but everyone I talked to wanted it.

Found a set of chrome fender trim and made them work on the aftermarket fenders. Also threw on a $15 chrome exhaust tip. Broke one of the markers - replacements arrive tomorrow.

if you don't like it, don't do it  none of us have to see it every day :flipoff2:

I can’t see it from behind the wheel.
I also can’t see it because the truck spends 96.78% of its time hidden in the barn. :flipoff2:

And…

Tightening those bolts sucks ass…. Requires as 3’ tall, 34# double jointed contortionist to tighten.

And…

F-U… I want to blame my decision on someone else. It’s the new American way!. :flipoff2:

in that case, shit, looks like it's already done and can stay :flipoff2:
