Anyone have an idea what a Prentiss No 22 might be worth? I think it’s in decent shape for the age but really needs gone through, way too big for my current needs or I’d keep it.

I have a big old huge vise like that and really only use it for an anvil.

Value on it depends on your area and how much someone would pay for it. People advertise vises like that around here asking too much and they keep bumping their adds for over a year until I guess they get tired of bumping them.

Me personally, I wouldn't pay more than $50 for it but that's me. I have and use big ole Wilton bullet vises and those I would pay good money for, but I got mine through great deals. One I've owned since the late 80's.

Depending what it is, $30 per inch of vise jaw is generally pretty fair in my mind. As mentioned, people post stupid prices and some times you get it.

I had a 6” REED I sold because it was heavy and too large for $120. The outer jaw was half damaged as well. Wilton’s don’t pop up here and when they do it’s garage journal tool polisher pricing

Depends on where you are selling it honestly. I see people list them for between $100 to $750 but the $750 listings stay up for months.
I've never paid more than $75 or $100 for an older bench vise. If something like that popped up near me I'd offer $100 for it and then not lose any sleep from a no.

$30/in is one of those stupid prices.
Canada pricing, I should have said maximum is $30/inch for me and it better be real nice and not just a user. This is an example of stupid pricing near me:

The youtubers, restorers and collector have all driven the price of big vises through the roof. Depending on location, you should easily get $3-400 for that.

I managed to score 9 big bench vises at an auction a couple weeks ago. All Columbian, Wilton or Parker. I'm keeping a couple of the best and will flip that rest for 2-3x what I paid.

I have a 6" Reed like that, I gave $300 for it. More than I should have but, I wanted it! Use paint stripper to clean it up, not a cup brush, so all of the text is crisp if you want to sell it.

I shouldn’t have sold this one… it was about 130lbs but the cast in place jaws were destroyed. Looking at prices now I sold it “cheap”

This literally was a suggested item in the FBMP this AM while scrolling; even though its in way up PA and I'm in Rich. Va.
I mean its, cool, its nice... but its not $2,000.00 cool and nice, IMO.

^ Yeah, that's fucking insane. There a a few select BIG vises that would fetch that kind of money, but not a Prentis. An 8" Witlon bullet still sells for over $4k new, so paying upwards of 2k for a very nice used one wouldn't be out of line.

I averaged about $115 apiece for all of these at an auction a few weeks ago. I plan to keep a couple and then flip the rest. Either flip them as they are with a quick wipe down, or maybe I'll do a youtube restoration and sell them for $2k apiece. :flipoff2:

I must have listed it too cheap because within an hour or so of listing it I had a buyer at $200.

Or some guy who's looking for a vise has an email alert set up so he knows as soon as someone posts one that isn't crazy expensive.

That’s probably it. He is a collector of sorts from what he says.

Six months it’ll be back on Craigslist for quadruple what you sold it for with a shitty linseed finish 😂
I wouldn’t doubt it, can’t say I haven’t done the same thing though.

Definitely too cheap. You could have spray bombed it (without even cleaning it, of course) and sold it for $400.

Shit, I never looked at the pics close enough. Didn't realize the 22 had the self-adjusting jaw.

Just to make you feel better :flipoff2:

Now you tell me. I paid nothing for it so I’m still ahead. I may be selling a big ass bell for fil and it’s kinda the same way as these, less market for the monster ones.
