Picked up a millermatic 200 used locally for $500 cdn. I've been looking for a decent mig since I no longer have 3 phase power at the new shop.

Machine sat inside a shipping container for a few years and I bought it without trying it :homer: Guy said he had problems with it birdnesting. The drive rollers where flipped to 0.035 with all 0.035 consumables and 0.030 wire

Tried it out and I was amazed at how well it works. Thought it was a 200 amp machine due to the 200 in the model name but it's way more than that  Cranked it up and I'm honestly thinking it's clos to 300 amps.

Nice score. I have heard the 200’s are some of the best/smoothest running mig machines. I have been hoping for one to fall in my lap for years.

they do 200A continuous
they'll do like 300a at a reduced duty cycle

kinda like the 330a/bp welders, they'll do 330a cont, but like 460A at a reasonable duty cycle when you're fucking around with welding up cracked cylinder heads

Very legit machine you got there!

Have you pulled the panels to check for corrosion or a mouse nest or anything inside? Conex storage always scares me, I get flashbacks from my Army days of unpacking and repacking conexes... Sand and mold and spiders and mold. LOL

Popped the panels off and so far so good. No mouse nests etc. Wasn't even that dusty.

Missing some parts for where the wire roll mounts, gun needs a switch and liner and some of the plastic insulators for the cables are broken. All of it is unavailable from Miller. Might swap out the gun for a tweco or m25 clone off eBay. The listings are saying the guns are US made so can't be too bad for around $200.

I'll update with pics comparing welds with my 252 and some test plates :flipoff2:This thing seems to be way underrated and has more balls running wide open than the 252.

The only things I dislike are the tapped voltage selector and having to change the plug for low and high voltage.

I run the same vintage shopmasters. Any Miller of that vintage is the real deal. If they have a hook comming out the top to move them around they are the good ones lol.

I've got one I picked up at the state auction for $500 that they had already put an M25 on. It's a decent welder, I don't love Miller migs so I might be biased on that though.

I've found the same thing. That vintage of Miller welder late 80s/early 90s seems to be the best.

I'm a miller whore

I understand why guys don't prefer them for mig though. Well if you ever feel the need to get rid of yours feel free to hit me up and we can work something out :smokin:
