72blazer
Marion Cobretti
This build has been a long time coming even before I acquired her. This was a previous build by Grendel He did a badass job on his end of the build. I believe we first started talking about making a deal back in 2020/2021 but just kinda faded. In 2022 talks picked up again and quickly snowballed. Grendel did me a solid and held onto it while my divorce happened.
Eventually, he took it to a local mechanic of his to get it running and driving for me. That ended up being a waste of time and $6500 down the drain (no fault of Grendel’s). I finally had it shipped from NH to Houston May 2023. Once I took possession of it, I realized the Blazer was running but wouldn’t shift out of 2nd gear, it would rattle like hell, the front tunnel had been hacked together when the transmission was installed, and the super expensive exhaust system was mediocore at best. At this point, I brought it home and attempted to wrench on it with a buddy locally. I quickly realized that wasn’t going to work so I sent her off to another shop November 2023.
I finally had it in the hands of a shop that I knew was willing to get it done right. So the plan was to figure out the transmission, finish out the AC, and address a few other issues including the oil pan sitting on the crossmember. After 11 months, I finally made the time to go pick her up and get her home to finish her up. That in itself was interesting, I had a coolant leak big enough to consider swapping a water pump in the parking lot, but decided to try some stop leak first. It ended up holding for the trip home.
Meet Wednesday (as in Wednesday Addams but not in reference to the new Netflix Wednesday
)1972 Blazer 12V, 47RE, 205, 1 tons, previously restored by Grendel, aftermarket front seats, AC, 35s on H2s.
This will be an ongoing build. It’s leaking at the rear main seal and dipstick. Sometime during the last 11 months it acquired a huge scuff that removed paint off the rear fender that needs to be addressed asap.
Plans:
- address the paint scuff
- fix the oil leaks
- tint the windows
- check the exhaust for leaks as the fumes in the cab are pretty bad with the windows up
- completely insulate the cab and sound deaden to roll with the AC blasting
- Grendel included a rear seat, I’ve been back and forth on going back to the original seats but the aftermarket seats are really comfortable and I forsee myself cruising this thing a lot so I may just set up as a 2 seater for the time being.
- wood grain exterior panels/ molding
- 35 or 37s on a recently acquired set of Weld wheels
I guess let’s see where this build goes.
I can’t thank Grendel enough. This thing in a way was a mental life saver and I don’t think he will ever know what he did for me.
