What's new

We all remember Doug's axles.....

I remember all the drama back then, and I'd never give them a dime, but I'm curious. Have they ever tried to explain their side of the story?

Cliff's Notes:
Some time before 2012, Doug ordered $16.5k worth of high pinion 14 bolt axles from Torq.
Torq dicks him around for 2 years, at one point settling on low pinion drop out third member 14 bolts, but never delivering. At first Doug was ok with delays, but got sick of waiting and got to a point where he was ready to actually build the car. Torq is still providing nothing but excuses.
Phil Licciardi starts meme attack. I hesitate to call it a meme war as I don't think they ever responded.
Torq calls Doug and asks him to make Phil stop, he says give me my money or my axles.
As of September 2021, Doug doesn't have a refund or axles.
Doug's theory is that Torq was robbing Peter to pay Paul, used his money to get another project out the door.

I found a link to the Doug's axle thread on the old site, but the link is dead.

Unfortunately this is all too common with many smaller 4X4 shops. :frown:
Yup, the hot rod shop here in town went under for exactly that reason. My old boss lost a bunch of money.

When I was into sport bikes, I had a similar situation. He had only had my bike a couple weeks and had none of my money, and I don’t think he’s even start working on it. The owner of the shop called me and said he was closing shop, and admitted to being a better mechanic than businessman. He told me to come pick up my bike and that he’d call me if he found someone to run the business end of the buisness.

I remember when all this happened but lost interest. So if this is all legit, did Doug sue Torq? If not why not? I think Id be hanging someone by their balls if they stole 16.5k from me.

BTW I added a comment and replied to Oldenwelder's replies with more about Doug.

Torq rear axle being put into place to see where it needs to live. This drag axle has 3.5" x .500" tubes, backbone truss, and AR skids on the bottom. WMS is right at 67.5". I would have preferred it to be slightly wider, but purchased it from a friend (insert Doug reference, lol) that wanted to get rid of it. Really nice piece of hardware and build quality. Tig welds on this are beautiful. My dealings with Torq were positive. I had questions on the hub bearings/races and snap ring configuration that they helped with.
Lots of Doug references are now being inserted on the video.

Doug said in the video that $16.5k was right in the sweet spot where it’s a lot of money, but it would cost more money in legal fees to sue.

You can only sue for up to $11k in small claims court in Utah, but we have to assume Doug lives in/around NorCal, as he’s buddies with Phil.

Does it become civil at that point?

Youtube dude must be asleep. He deleted both of my "are those Doug's axles" comments almost immediately
