Warn 16.5 on a 3rd gen?

Not new to winches (Winch's??:homer:) but looking to put one on my 08. I amalso going to swap out the entire bumper, I have a line on a warn 16.5Ti and would like it, but the google searching that I do comes up with some guys are having trouble fitting them in the diesels. Is there any truth to this? probably mostly depands on the bumper. I have not yet picked one out. Or should I go with a 12 or 15K winch? I have never messed with these bigger ones, Jus tthe jeep size guys.
 
If the bumper is built to hold a large frame winch...IE 16.5 winch it should fit on a 3rd gen
 
I had a 16.5TI on a 2004 with Fab Fours Bumpers before they got all ghey. The bumpers and winch were awesome.

Well I hope I never have to winch like that for my own truck! lol. I see the road armor bumpers says they will fir a warn 12K on the 3rd gens. the 4th gens they say 16.5. But there is very little difference between 12 and 16.5 physical size wise. IMHO id really like to go with a 16.5
 
I've got a 15.5k on a Smittybilt M1 bumper on my 06 and everything clears fine, pretty sure it would fit up to a 17.5k winch.

The 12k size limit is due to the air to air getting in the way on the diesels.

Other option would be to run a non-winch bumper with a front reciever and have the winch removable.

I have a 16.5 with a fab fours bumper both excellent, and both for sale.
