So, my buddy Giffin (see VulvaFour) got me thinking about a Volvo for a DD. He builds conversion products for 200 and 700 series Volvos. I like building shit that everyone thinks is factory but never was. So, here's project Vulva.

The concept right now is a "263C" - in the UK, they call them Shooting Brakes. I love them and want one but they never built this.

I have a 450hp L33, a built 4L60E and a Ford 8.8 ready to go, with all of Giff's fixins to change out the drive train in a weekend of furious wrenching with my sons.

Most people, when they think about cutting shit up to build something that never existed typically start with something that's already shit.

That's really, really rough on people... see VulvaFour for instance. It has issues that Giff didn't want to deal with, because of what he started with by the time he popped the starter off with a hydrolocked engine, he hated it and it hated him.

So, I am looking for the cleanest 262C I can find.

Enter this, a no rust CA car that went 200K miles with its 6 cylinder, only to be replaced with a 4cyl in front of the auto, to be sold to a gent in GA.

He doesn't know what I will do to this.

As I said, engine, trans and rear end are already done.

EndlessMtnFab cut down the 8.8 to use 2 short side axles, installed a new LSD and welded the tubes. This will get some big assed factory Ford brakes.

Although I may do a connect and cruise GM engine in place of the engine and trans I have.

Giffin welded his conversion brackets on it.

So, the big thing is, I have a rusty POS wagon I bought 3 years ago... that was supposed to be rust free...and it's not. The unibody is literally rotted to shit along the passenger side frame rail.

It also has no interior and is missing some of the stuff I like about this project. Giff loved it, because he could have Vague Industries design a cage for it, as a template.

It came here yesterday and then went back with Giff... who may crush it, or may keep it for me to hack up later.

So, the plan right now:

Get that 262C up here from Atlanta.

Drop in a GM gen 3 v8 engine, with supporting trans. The 4cyl will make it's last drive from GA to NH and whooops, fall out.

Bolt in the 8.8 rear. 15.4" rear rotors with 6 pot calipers, nice sway bar, control arms, basically, a handling suspension, not a leather coach floating down the highway.

Front gets camber mod plates, coil overs, Porsche 16.6" rotors with 6 pot calipers and basically everything 1975-1993 240 makes for the front end.

it gets a GM based hydroboost and a MC to drive all four calipers correctly and I also replace the oddball multi line brake system (front brakes have 4 circuits) with something simpler, but more elegant.

Drive it for a bit... then decide if I drop 400 hours into making it a shooting brake.

Letterman had a Volvo V8 years ago.
I believe it was a 60 degree Ford Mustang engine.
Kept getting speeding tickets thru CT. on the way to NYC.
So the story goes….

Kudos to you 🍻

It's a valid story. There was a guy in Maine that was building them.

At this stage, LS swaps are common as dirt.

HUGE Volvo nerd here, I fully support this endeavor!

Paul Newman had a a few hot rod sleeper Volvos, a Grand National V6 in a 700 series wagon, and a super charged, Ford V8 in a 900 series wagon. Letterman's was a gift Newman had made for him.

I've got a '76 242 I've been collecting parts for for years, I've got the DOHC head from a 940, a few different Redblocks to choose from, really think I want a late, oil squirter, 2.5l Penta though, and a whole menagerie of other parts. Goal is a reliable mid-upper 400 HP turbo sleeper. The 242's name is Elvis, since it spent most of its life in Memphis.

Have a '87 760 wagon too, went and met a guy from Craigslist for Volvo parts, came home with a $300 wagon with a title. Have some ideas, but nothing as ambitious as Vulva. LS swap is up there, on the list, I think a BMW M70 V12 would bee a hoot, but I've got a bored .030 over, fresh Gen II F-Body LT1 that's not doing anything.

I've got a lot of experience with later model Whiteblocks too. I still have the 850 I drove in grad school, have had S/V70s, an S80, and there are still 3x XC90s in the family.

I won't clutter your thread with my photos, but here's a link to some if you'd like to see.

You should talk to Giffin. LS swap is easy with his stuff.
