You could also say he's trying to get his story out there so people have name recognition in future elections.

he grew up in one of the most backward ass parts of the country. wasn't deliverance filmed about that part of the country

So true, my comparison was based on Deliverance being based in Georgia, JD Vance's story was based in Kentucky and parts of Ohio. but both were set around the poor and uneducated in the Appalachian region, the idea that he has succeeded, and made it to where he is today does not lend many to think he was groomed to be where he is today.

Literally everyone has said terrible things about Trump including me and probably you. He is a polarizing figure (asshole) and there has been a disinformation campaign against him from the day he turned republican. Lots of people believed it.

Vance is a populist of the conservative variety, that is useful to him as there is a huge anti-government anti-corporate sentiment to be tapped into on the right and the left.

We are witnessing the death of the small government conservative myth. The pipe dream of principled statesmen gaining power, reducing spending, and limiting the power of future government has died. Whatever changes the tea party and libertarian movement has made to conservatism has been eroded. We are now on a train barreling towards economic ruin and there is no incentive for anybody to try to stop it or slow it down because even saying that will make you unelectable.
