Due to circumstances outside of my control, I have to catch a flight into Missoula late at night- I'll land around 12:40 am. I need to grab a hotel for the night, but I've never been to Missoula before, does anyone know if it's easy to catch an Uber or Taxi that late at night? Or does everything shut down early there and I would be better off securing some other form of transportation to (what will most likely be) a cheap ass motel?

Just stay here, they have a free airport shuttle, Google Travel

It's 1/4 mile from the airport, you'd get there faster by walking.

edit: well ok, longer from where the airport actually dumps you out, but still <15 minute walk.
Unfortunately where I'll be staying is outside of my control, but maybe I'll get lucky. Projected low that night is only 29* and I'm bringing one really small bag, so walking 1/4 mile isn't out of the question.

It’s usually pretty easy to grab an Uber or taxi at that hour, but just in case, you might want to check out your options ahead of time. I saw this post from a while back about late-night arrivals, and I remembered a time I flew into a small town around the same hour. I found a taxi waiting, but I was glad I had a backup plan.

If you're looking for something more reliable, consider booking a car service like Castle Rock Limo. A friend of mine used them recently and said it was super smooth and made everything feel way easier. They picked him up right on time, and he felt way more relaxed heading to his hotel.

Sandy Johnson it's been 2 years, did you make it to the hotel????
Oh damn, did I not post somewhere about that trip? It was a good one!

My flight made it as far as Salt Lake and then the connector to Missoula got canceled due to weather while we're sitting on the tarmac.

So they get us off the plane I scrambled and got hotels canceled, booked, and the first(only one that day) flight I could get to Missoula the next day.

I headed back to my new salt lake hotel, drank some whiskey and hopped in bed. Woke up at 7 am, grabbed breakfast and headed to the airport

I jumped on the plane and was looking out the window at SLC construction when I noticed one of those cement mixers that 2big bronco hadn't seen in real life yet, so I dutifully took a pic to send to him

My flight landed in me Missoula at lunch time, which isn't ideal considering I needed to catch a ride to the RV dealer, inspect the rig, sign all the paperwork, go pick up supplies, and then drive to Idaho to camp for the night.

I do all the things and make it back to a walmart just outside of Missoula again(headed to I-90) at 4pm

You sort of forget all the chit you need for a totally empty RV if you haven't had a new one in a while. Thank god wal-mart had an "RV" isle. I was buying toilet paper, sewer and water hoses, wheel chocks, water pressure regulator, sheets, a blanket, pillow, one knife, fork, spoon, paper plates, snacks, alcohol, etc. All I had brought with me on the flight was a small carry-on backpack.

I got on I-90 about 5:30 and it was a race against the weather as there was a storm on the way and one thing I didn't buy was chains.

It got dark and cold and started snowing. RV said 9* out. I was hoping the heater in this thing was good and luckily it was.

Then the snow hit and things got wild. A semi passed me doing like 80, I watched him hit a patch of black ice in the fast lane just after that, and he ended up almost hitting me before recovering in the emergency lane. It was snowing so hard that I my weak-ass RV headlights were not doing much. Also didn't help that it was snowing sideways and blowing me all over the road. I think the last 2 hours of the drive were at 50 mph or less. Didn't see anyone else on the road other than 1 or 2 more semis. No pictures because that was a two hands on the wheel kind of night.

I rolled into Idaho Falls to camp about 10pm. There was fresh snow everywhere and the RV park wasn't plowed yet. As I drove in, I saw a woman taking out her trash pause to watch me drive by. I thought that was odd until I discovered right where she was standing was a particularly deep patch of snow. A little bit of panic and 5k rpms later and I got out of it and found my campsite(with luckily barely any snow on it).

After that it was beer and supercross replay time

The next morning the roads were plowed and I hauled ass. Found out after getting gas that the door would fly open on the freeway if I didn't shut it all the way.
Then later found out the limiter on the RV was set to 78 mph. A combination of that plus an 80 mph idaho speed limit and Idaho hay trucks going 80 made for an awkward drive back where they would slowly pass me and then as soon as we hit a hill, I would catch them and pass them, and then wait while they slowly caught and passed me back. This was problematic because a lot of stuff falls off hay trucks, like...hay

and also rocks. FACK.

I made it to nevada and trucks were not much of an issue once hills started. My goal was to hit a little RV park outside of Reno for the night. I was feeling pretty comfortable in this thing, so I ended up hovering just below the limiter the whole time

Rolled into reno RV park about 6:30pm, made camp and headed into the attached casino to get some dinner. This gem of a car was parked outside. I'm hoping deer and not vehicular manslaughter, but the front end didnt' seem jacked up enough for a deer.

Next morning I hauled ass home. I stopped by a truck wash first to get all the winter road grime off before my wife saw my latest bad financial decision for the first time.

Made it home and the family was stoked on our new money pit.

Been using the chit out of it ever since.

What’s the power train on that thing?
Looks nice.
It's a 2017, has the ford v10 with I think the 5 speed. It pulls pretty good. Jeep + trailer is just a touch over 7k. I seem to get somewhere around 8 mpg no matter what I do- tow, drive 78, drive 55, etc.

I love it and got it for about $15k less than anyone was selling one in California, so for me the trip was worth it.

Get a room at the Fairfield. If they don't have a shuttle it's a short walk.

Weather is nice. Uber is totally hit and miss as it doesn't pay.
