Hey guys, building up my yj, got a lm7 for it and looking into a 4 speed truck transmission and np205 case. I'm going to be running a super duty Dana 60 in the front so that limits me to drivers drop. The price of Chevy d60's is just absurd anymore so that's out. The options I think I have are np435 out of a Ford with a driver's drop 205, then adapt that to the Chevy engine, which is fine. But looking at parts the 435 is getting harder to rebuild. Next option is a sm465, which will bolt up to the 5.3, but need to sort out the transfer case. I've read I can get a newer one with the 32 spline output and change the input on the 205 to 32 spline and it'll work, but I'm not 100% on that...

Any insight? Thanks

Is a 205 on its own going to be enough low range?
Probably not, been looking into under drive options as well, not sure if doing a 203/205 set up or like an ord set up is in my future. Then with that would need to figure out lengths and how to achieve that.

Whats your wheel base?
What you rig overall.

Old 10spl 465 to a 203 reduc to ford 205
Any 465 get short 32spl out, 203 same
Late 85+ 465 to ford 205 with face redrill.

All 3 options are basicaly the same length but will be long overall.

Gonna be about 101.5, yj stretched about 6 in the rear and 2 in the front. Current trans/case length from the front of the bell to the rear yoke is about 37.5

I just put a Nv4500/ecobox/205 in my 105" wheelbase scout II. Rear driveshaft is 33.5" give or take. 1350 flanged CV.

Should have room.

Depending on engine angle (I set mine at 6 degrees) you'd be fine with a short drive shaft.

i am working on the 205 with magnum case and adapting to the tranny is easy, they have adapters for about any thing out there. not sure if it is a waste but i am going to try and use 1480 ujoints in the rear. for the reason stated above. also from what i can tell the underdrive dont add a crazy amount to the drive train length, i think mine will only add 3-4 because the th350 to 205 was crazy thick, so you get rig of that and place the underdrive in and its thin adapter and its not much added.
203 to 205 add quite a bit of length if i recall.

What about the '88-'91 SM465 with the 241 driver drop? My brother has one in his 88 K3500 with the SM465. Rare enough, but they are out there. As you can get a SYE for the 241 it makes sense. All comes together, no adapters, compact.

and you would get a better low range of 2.7 i think.

I want twin stick though, if I was gonna do that I'd just leave the 231 and adapt to that, but that's not what I want, so 🤷‍♂️
