Whole heartedly agree, these things are pretty slick once you've got the technique down. I've got one in my tool box in the garage and one in my to-go bag.

Brake flaring tool. I’ve been told it works better, and I used it on mine after fucking up the type in the OP photo. I’ll have to add it ‘just beacuse’.

No problem! Make sure it is annealed, straight monel is some tough stuff otherwise.Haven't tried Monel wire, I'll check it out, thanks Alex.

Brake flaring tool seems over kill to carry. Are you going to carry spare brake tubing and fittings? (and brake fluid) Most times someone breaks a brake line, they throw a pair of vice grips on the damaged line till they get back to camp.

In the case above where breaking the hose at the master cylinder, yeah declaring the line would work better than vice grips. Probably the ONLY time you’d do it.
If you had the tool to flare the line you wouldn’t mess with Vice grips.

Carry spare brake line and a fitting to solve this problem. His bag could hold a few 8-12” long pieces.
I have spare bubble flare pieces for shitbox Cherokee problems.

I think your trail kit depends a lot on what your vehicle is, and what you tend to break. Any Toyota guy has all the tools in his kit to change a birfield on the trail.

The last pic is just random spare parts I've accumulated
The two little water proof cases have been working out good for holding nuts bolts washers, I just have a rag stuffed in to take up the extra space
I've got another bag with recovery gear, another little bag full of shop towels gloves and soap and then another bag with some quick reach stuff, handheld radio, batteries for handheld, soft shackles, jump pack, sidewall patch kit and some air up/down stuff
I feel like I haul too much shit and then always need something I don't have

Screw drivers, pliers, vice grips, crescent wrench, razor knife, file, wire brush, RTV, etc. in the 2 drawer Versastack box.
There's a 3lb min sledge and a hatchet that live between the door and front seat. There's a Masterflow Tsunami 12v air compressor in its bag under one seat and a bag with recovery gear, gloves, and U joints under the other seat. I've got a little D ring on top of the tool box and tailgate striker I strap tool rolls and other stuff too. I have a couple tool rolls with combo wrenches, old school double box end ratchet wrenches, punches/cold chisel, cheap multi meter, wire, zip ties, wire stripper, crimper, electrical tape, sundry electrical connection, fuses, and a few relays. That's all the regular stuff, but I usually throw a medium sized Milwaukee tool bag with random "might need that" stuff in it too. I've got a Milwaukee head lamp and a Niko LED wand with a strong magnetic base that's usually along for the ride too.
