I'm thinking it is the best option for passenger capability outside of suburban or expedition. Plus Toyota reliability and efficiency of design. Any other competitors out there better or on par for around the same price?

Do you want to wheel it or tow with it?

If not, a Honda Pilot has served a buddy's family well as a crotchfruit hauler.

2007+ has a small fuel tank and gets shitty mileage (14-15mpg).

Other than that it's a good truck. There are basically the same 2007-2020. The newer ones are behind on technology compared to other brands but that makes it better IMO.

Ive looked at them periodically, The price always ends up a hard sell for how "old" they are.

I've an '08. It has served us well with plenty of human and cargo space. Only maintenance I have had to perform on it aside from oil/brakes etc. was the water pump at 150k miles. It has the 5.7 so about 14 mpg.

It also has plenty of cup holders :flipoff2:

I've got a 2004 just hit 200k miles and I've just done basic maintenance on mine. Biggest complaint is the rear hatch isn't designed right, the hatch release has to be replaced every couple years. Not sure if it's the cable stretching or the arm on the release bending.

New, hell yea. Used, man i dunno... tahoes loose value and the sequoias don't. 5 years old I think I'd go tahoe.

We have a 2010 5.7 125k miles, it's been great. But the small tank brings the suck. It rides great, only a few problems: condenser, idler pulleys, and ac blower. I would recommend it.

I checked them out before buying our current Yukon (had a Tahoe at the time). I guess the fact that I currently have a Yukon says everything about how that went.

What year?
I expect my 03 to go 350k but I'm a little disappointed with the power and fuel economy, my 5.3 suburban seemed to have the edge on both

in 05 I think they got variable cams and a 5 speed, I imagine they improved on both

Based on my fairly recent test drive experiences, the 5.3 still shits all over whatever is in the Sequoia. I ended up going with a Denali to get the 6.2.

We went through this about 6 months ago. The wife wasn’t a fan, I loved it.

Power was phenomenal. Very comfy. The interior layout is odd, and there were a few features she wanted that only came in the platinum. For some reason, all the ones we looked at seemed to have more than normal wear and tear on the carpeting. We had an 08 Tahoe which had been great but was driving me nuts with GM’s quality and electrical issues.

we ended up getting a highlander. It’s a nice ride - gas mileage is nice, it does everything well, but it’s an appliance. She misses her brawny truck based SUV. If the GX460’s had captains chairs in our budget (only 2017+), that’s probably the route we’d have gone. Only thing I didn’t like on those is that stupid rear gate.

Similar situation, replacing '07 Mountaineer we ended up with a '19 Expedition Max. My wife was adamant on three rows plus room for stuff and that left us with either the Expedition Max or Suburban/Yukon XL. The way the second row seats latch sealed the deal for her. The GM products hinge down and latch seemed like they'd catch a toe really quick. Expedition seats tilt and slide forward, easy entry and exit, and a comfortable third row. Ecoboost 3.5 and the 10 speed moves it along well and gets 22mpg highway.

My in-laws up and bought a 19 sequoia platinum 4wd last fall. Plenty of power, drives pretty decent, nice interior, they got the bucket seat 2nd row which is nice for adults, no problems at 20k on it, MPGs as expected. Nobody’s taken it off pavement yet so I dunno how it wheels but I think it has the same 4wd electronic tech stuff as all the other modern Toyota’s feature these days.

I never knew anyone with a Sequoia before, so comparing it to our 18yr old pre-facelift 100-series Land Cruiser it’s for sure an upgrade in terms of comfort and just having 20yr younger freshness. It looks much bigger though, so I kinda expected it to have more cargo room with the 3rd row being used, but it doesn’t. all the extra space is in the 2nd row.

When I found out they were buying a new SUV I tried to talk them into a 200-series Cruiser but they said it was “too small” for them, lol. If there was a Sequoia XL version like the other big SUVs I’d probably look into one of those, but I’d personally would have invested my $ in a used 200-series. I hate to say it, but I’ve considered getting a loaded 21 Sienna hybrid AWD as a new family hauler

What is the difference between an optioned SR5 and a platinum? What cant you get if you don't go the full upgrade?

Meh, we shopped the 200lc and the second gen Toyota and bought a 2011 Y62 patrol based QX56. I think it’s nicer and has more power and more room plus half the miles and price was way less for the same money a Toyota costs. And derated 400hp is nice too. It outruns both the Toyotas.

don't they fuckin' suck on gas mileage, as in a 5.3 suburban will get you 5mpg better?

I might look like a dork in my station wagon, but the cost of driving the thing is about 2 cents a mile. that's with fuel, tires, timing belts, and oil changes all figured in there
so while I'm looking dorky, you're at work

Get the same year Land Cruiser instead. More expensive, yes but a much better platform and will retain its value better.

We looked at them but they lacked cargo capacity, and we bought a yukon xl.

Off the top of my head, the 08+ platinum got nav, heated and cooled front seats, 5.7l, heated 2nd row captain's chairs with a big ass console that folded into a table between them, and rear air suspention.

Had an 08 tahoe, gas mileage is a wash between the two. Go on fuelly and they are less then 1 mpg different year to year until the 2015+ chevy's. I'd take the yota 5.7 without displacement on demand any day of the week.
