Went through the dead tooth thread. No dead tooth or discoloration here. Just a #18 cracked in half, going on 6ish years.

Cracked a molar with some hit pizza, much like putting hot glass in cold water, causing thermal shock. This was so painful that I began to panic.

Wasn't aware of the crack until going in for a cleaning about three years ago. Xrays showed it. Dentist dude told me that the crack can work its way through the jaw bone and offered to crown it for x amount. This only being my second dentist visit, (first was something like 30 years prior), I wasn't sure if this for real.

For the most part, it barely bothers me. It's stuff like chomping on a bacon bit or such and spreading the halves of my tooth that will briefly cause enough pain to make me drool.

So.. Look at crowning it soon, or brush it off for now?

Go to a third world country and get a gold crown.
Funny..... I had to go into Honolulu for a root canal. It was supposed to take a day or two.. Doc said; you can't fly for a week. Shit; I was stranded in HI for a week on expenses! :smokin:
Got a couple of gold crowns in HI from a filipino dentist... Local state side dentis were always amazed at how well done they were. They lasted almost 40 years before the base tooth failed. :smokin::smokin::smokin::smokin:

With me it was root canal and crown. Root canals are not fun, but they are the thing to do to avoid an abses. Root canals can be expensivs; north of $1K.
IMHO: Root canal's are your friend. :smokin:

Have a hot tooth root canal. Let me know if they are still your friend. :lmao: Fuck that hurt like a mother fucker.

I've got a bit over $3k tied up in one tooth thanks to a botched root canal.

I'll get it pulled and get an implant before I ever do that shit again.

I've had 7 root canals, 8 if you count the one that had to be re-done, and 4 crowns in the last 4 or so years. Root canals aren't nearly so bad as people make em out to be. If that amount of pain was on your hand, you'd wring your hand, say motherfucker **** piss, and carry on. Humans are just pussies about mouth pain.

Anyway, find a good dentist (this is key in the root canal not being a terrible experience), and get that bitch roto rooted and capped. Takes 3-4 hours including cooking the crown after they test fit it. Sometimes you gotta go back for a minor regrind/tune up if your face was numb and the bite wasn't 100% dialed. I had one that was tilted a little too far out and I chomped my cheek about 736 times before I went in and had them take the outside edge down a bit.

Timely subject. Broke tooth 4 weeks ago. Dentist visit today. They are busy as dog running bitches. Anyhoo, good news. I get the works and a crown in 2 weeks. They get $1400.

I have 4 lower molars all with crowns. Going on 10 years with zero problems. I would guess they are porcelain or some other composite material. I had insurance though. None required root canals.

I've had 3 crowns in as many years. The earlier it gets capped, the better. Avoids root canals and minimizes the duration of pain.

If there isn’t a reasonable chance the root canal will work it just needs to be pulled. Cheaper in the long run too.

Had a tooth crowned about 10 years ago, the worst pain I have ever felt during dental work.

They keep shooting me up with numbing agent and waiting 10-15 mins for it to kick in and then get back to work, then having to stop and shoot me up some more. They were getting to the point they were worried about shooting me up anymore and I told them to just finish it up, not to worry about my whiny bitch noises. :lmao:

A resounding yes on a crown/cap, I see. Wife and I have tossed around getting it done for a while.

At that time at the dentist, I was not sure if the crack extending through the jaw bone claim was smoke for profit, or something I should take care of sooner than later. Makes some sense that said crack would propagate.

I thought the material options were gold or composite. Didn't know of porcelain and wouldn't want that anyway.

Do it now, i had one crack and didnt crown it or anything, couple years later it got a infection in it down deep, worst pain i have ever had, i passed out thru pain waiting on denist appt, it ended up poping puss up between the tooth and gum, nasty ass shit, but better that it popping into bloodstream, knew a guy who had same thing happen i to his bloodstream and it killed his ass, something about it fucking up his heart.

Dayum. Alright, I'll get on this. Unfortunately, we won't get any sort of out-of-state vacation out of it. Going on 6 or 7 years and not a single problem other than when my dumbass chomps down on the right material sitting on that tooth.

My gold crown is going on 30 years old. It's probably my best toof.

Fixing to have to have another front one pulled. That puts me close to missing half of all my teeth. :(

I had a three root canals a few years back. One failed after a year. I wasn’t willing to go through that again so I told them to just yank it. Wasted money on the high fancy porcelain crown on that tooth. Oh well. I did opt to do a bone graft in case I wanted to do an implant later. Healed just fine.

Coo. Gotta over this with my other half tonight to figure out when and this might happen.

If you can, get in and get the top of the tooth taken down and out of occlusion ASAP.

Go back and yes, pay extra for gold. I will put gold on all my posterior crowns (unless on an implant).

The crown acts like rings on a wooden barrel. It will keep it held together. It may be too late. If you are having symptoms, just get a temp crown put on for 6 months to a year and if it gets better, then get the final.

If it needs a root canal, pull it and get an implant. Don’t waste your time for a cracked tooth

I know a lot of ppl getting implants lately and the dentist my Dad used has done 17k of them. On his last visit 3 patients were in with bone infections...

Also look into alternative root canal proceedures there is a lot of stuff out there you should look around at.

Fuck crowns. they break eventually and have to be redone. I've been having them pulled and implants done. Pretty happy with them so far. One right in front. I'm in the medical service industry so my smile is everything. Two to go, maybe a third. Haven't decided yet.
