What's new

Tom's 79' SSII @woodbinebeastssii time for Tons!

Thinking of out boarding the shocks.

Bought a pair of them Ford shock towers. Got them on the front thinking of cutting this set down to outboard the shocks.

Likely mount to the top of the axle. These are 9" travel bilsteins.

Got my front axle in and mocked up. Driveshaft will fit perfect don't have to get it re-made staying 1310.

Looks like I'm staying tie rod under the leafs has about 1/4 of clearance to dif cover if I run an 8 3/4 ram plenty if I run a 8" ram.

Still waiting on my 35 spline ARB I ordered back at the begining of Oct. Probably sitting on one of them ships in LA. FUCK Joe Biden.

Looking like it will all work out.

Wheeling the Piss out of 35s and haven't broken or worn a single one out yet. 2 years of wheeling.

I'd rather break a 1310 u joint than an axle shaft u joint or any axle components. They take about 30 min to replace.

Yeah, but now you're on 40s right? By that logic why didn't you stay with d44s?

I ran 1310s with 39s for a few years and would pop a driveshaft damn near every time I went out. I run 1350s with 42s now and have only worn out one driveshaft, no breaks knock on wood.

I understand the logic of building a fuse into the system, but I don't agree with it. Build it all strong and you'll be good.

Got my rear shocks out boarded, just used the Dorman Ford shock towers. I used these in the front too with the IHPA SOA kit. (Ford brand) I've got 3.75" up travel and 5.25 down travel with these shocks.

37s mounted for now 10.5" clearance on the diff with the TMR 15 bolt shave.

Measured for retuning my driveshaft yet again. 43.75".

Place near where I work Transaxle retubes for about $200. Well that was before steel price increase.

Thought about going to 1350 CV but the yoke is $150 cdn figure if I'm going 1350 I might as well just do the 32 spline output with 1350 flange yoke from JB conversions, but likely not doing this til I break shit or put an LS/ Tr4050 in it.

I know yall want me to go 1350 up front but I litterally only have enough driveshaft clearance for 1310 diameter. It's an Adams driveshaft 1310 CV shaft. Long spline for reverse shackle.

I blew apart my first 1350 cv this weekend, lol.

With your style of driving the 1310 may work well, time will tell. Still following along!

Haha yea I'm lucky to get over 2k rpm on the trail. Don't need it with all the downlow torques of an IH V8.

Got my soon to be 14 yo kiddo involved welding for the first time, and running the flap disc. She actually enjoyed it. I'm trying to push her into the trades as a career choice.

Getting my rear shaft retubed, hope to pick that up soon.

Told me the centering ball yoke on the 1310 CV was worn out, only has sun 15k km on it, said the joint was likely spinning in the tcase yoke which lead to it failing early. Was a Spicer joint too.

Filed down the yoke face a bit to hopefully tighten it up a bit.

Ordered a set of 5 nitto trail graps in the 40x13.5R17 variety $3100 cdn... Only other options were Brocomps or Maxxis (3-5 week wait) Toyos are on unended backorder unfortunately.

I wanted a made in North America set of tires!

Well my ARB 166 order was cancelled by supplier as ARB told them no special orders (back order) and no ETA on supply for the future...

Luckily found a guy local with an RD36 new in the box, but then couldn't find thick cut standard rotation 5.38s...

Then research shows a nitro gear (Mr gasket) Dana 60 ring gear spacer to use 4 series gears on a 3 series carrier. Since it's the front I'm not too worried about a huge failure point due to the spacer.

FUCK China virus and worldwide fucking bullshit.

Well the front is all mounted! 40's on!

Lots of chopping to commence! Including my bumper.

Need to bleed the brakes, and mount the PSC ram when ever TMR gets it and ships it to me. Will be mounting the cap end to the diff cover, rod end to the tie rod with a 1.5" clamp.

Kudos for installing the shock bolts oriented the right way (bolts running front to rear) so when the axle articulates it doesn't bind at the shock eye and break off or bend the shaft.

Not that I want to jinx myself, but I'm running a 1310 CV with a 1310 (I think) at the diff.. with 42s.

Thus far, stronger than the Tera Low 3.15 gearset. The Atlas hasn't failed yet, so the jury is still out.

I had to have the 1310 CV clearanced by Tom Woods during assembly to get enough travel out of it - so a 1350 that doesn't flex as well isn't a good fit.

I did go 1410 in the rear for the extra angularity rather than 1350. 1410 on the Atlas, 1410 on the 14-bolt.

I may have to go 1410s as if I do go LS with the NV4500 I picked up with a NWF doubler and the Dana 300 with JBcustoms 4:1 kit. It might be quite a bit longer. But I have moved my rear axle back 3".

Rolled it out of the garage! Got to sort the brakes out. Need to lift it up at each corner to see where the tires are going to end up when articulated before I start cutting more sheet metal and if my drag link is going to hit my straight steer brace.

Cut my bumpers down already and got my spare mount all welded up and mounted.

Got the front driver and rear pass cut. 1 more to go.

Going to order order Pacer Flexi flares in the 4.24" variety. They are dump truck flares but that is exactly what international used on all the SSII's originally but in a 3" variety.

Contemplating mud flaps hanging from the rear bumper to keep the piggies happy.

Got my locker compressor mounted and plumbed up. Under the seat.

Tested it with a 2 tire inflator I made up and fills two 40s from 8-25 psi in 6:40 minutes.

Lockers work,, wired the switches so the front can be locked without having to have the rear locked.

Also got the steering ram installed. Went with the PSC 8 3/4" ram. Litterally have 1/16" clearance at full lock on the pass side leaf spring...

Mounted on the drive side on a plate welded to the leaf spring mount.

Had to shorten both heims about 3/8" each.

But it works and clears barely.

Added front fender flares.
Pacer 4.25" dump truck flares. Got to stay legal for the streets here. They match the original IH SSII dump truck flares. Just a bit wider.

Still waiting on amazon's fuck up to send me the other set for the back.

I dig it! I like the tire choice, what I’ll be running if I ever take the time to get mine running…

Thanks. First drive so far was a little meh. That's a lot of fucking tire to drove on the road. Going to take some getting used to.

Was in 4th gear by 50km/hour...

Think the 5.38s might have been a little too much gear. But will be awesome offroad.

Not doing the NV4500/NWFtitan/205 til at least next year. Still haven't decided if I want to LS it or put all that behind the IH 345.

That should be an easy decision. LS!

So finally got my brakes sorted, went with a late 70s k30 master cyl 1.25" bore (for vac boost not hydro). It made my brakes way better than the stock 1.125 master. Got to take it for a good rip yesterday!

1st gear still useless in the road 6.32:1. So 2nd thru 3rd is gone by 60km and into 4th by about 60-65km/hr, pulls a li'l slow on the 40s from there but feels great at 55-60. Can't wait to get that 5 speed one day.

Its fun for sure and people love it!

First day out and one gent stopped to talk and he has a 58 power wagon on 70+ inch tires. Said floor was taller than my Scout lol. A real monster truck. Also showed me the $400k Kenworth RV he was buying.... Money I could only dream of, but just a kick ass blue collar guy.

Oh and the completely unbalanced 40s on the 17x9 Spyderlock wheels have zero vibration!
