A guy that I work with had a shotgun given to him, I think it was his step dad's who just passed, and he wants to get rid of it. Mossberg 835 12 ga. with a slug barrel and optic looks to be gently used. Seeing them for $325ish on gunbroker, I don't want to insult the guy but I also don't want to pay panic prices.

$350-400 tops is what I could see that selling for. It doesn't get the sexy evil gun markup during a panic.

Buy it .... 835 is a tank!!! Chambers 3-1/2".....dropped many white tail deer at 300yds. With mine....
are the chokes included? It came with 2 from Mossberg (nib)...:smokin::usa:

My newest Blue Book is dated, it's the 2017 edition, assuming that's the 835 ULTI-MAG Turkey/Deer Combo, it retailed for $661 without the scope, and 100% condition was $560 without the scope in '17. I can't imagine it's gotten much cheaper in three years. I know Blue Book is just a guide, but I think $325 is pretty light.

I still haven't seen him since he let me take it home last week. I think I will offer him $350 and see where it goes.

Just how... high above... it's back are... you aiming?

Just saw him as he was punching in and I was punching out. Tree fiddy it is.

That's a fair price for both of you. Those are a real workhorse, nothing pretty or fancy but they almost never fail and can take a beating.

I've shot a lot of deer with shotguns, have target shot a lot with shotguns, to consistently shoot/kill deer at 300 yards with a 12 gauge is quite a feat. What slug and optics are you using for that type of accuracy? What yardage do you sight in at? A 12 gauge slug drops over 5' at 300 yards IIRC.

He did mention a saboted slug but using a Hornady SST 300g sabot which is one of the flatter shooting slugs and assuming hes zeroed for 100yds its still nearly a four foot drop at 300 yds. His hold of 2" over the spine to heart (roughly 14") is closer to the drop at 200yds.

OP if you got the gun both barrels, the scope and case Id say you got a damn good price. I looked at gunbroker and didnt see any going for under $400. I would have bought it.

835 is a great gun, I’ve had one for 16 years now. We used to shoot a case of skeet most weekends in high school (at one point a buddy had an 8’ full-size bed piled about 6” deep with empty hulls), and I can recall having one single jam/misfire with it.

I didn’t clean mine for so long that when I finally decided to I took a bore brush and ran it with a drill to remove all the melted plastic.
