Ready to pull the trigger on some new tires.

It's a toss up between the TSL SX's and the BAJA PRO's

Both in the 43 inch flavor.

I only occasionally snow wheel, not as much as I would like to but a little.

I have always heard and read that stickys typically blow in the snow...How much truth to this?

And has anybody here been running the BAJA's

I had the 46" CLAWS in the first stage of my build but downsized for a few reasons.

Always liked them though.

Anybody have any input on either of these?

Thanks.

For an apples to oranges comparison, I was running 42 Iroks and just switched to 40 sticky Treps. The difference is unbelievable. I can almost walk stuff I had to full throttle beat down to make before.

My knowledge of the Pros is they are definitely soft after giving a set the scientific “lug twist” test on a display at the MT trailer at Hammers last year. I think it would be a killer East Coast tire.

Stickies don't like cold, I would not run them in the snow or anywhere with near freezing temps as the compound will crack.

I have 43in Baja Pro XS's showing up today so no real world test on that yet. That is the non sticky version though. I wanted stickies but do enough road miles to shy me away from it but comments below make me wish I got stickies. :mad3:

The 43 sx sticky is a closed cell sticky and will do fine in the snow. I wouldn't bother with the non sticky sx unless you hate traction, they are pretty unimpressive.

No idea on the mickey, but I would find out if they are closed or open cell.

I also plan to run cold temps. When I was looking into tires, BFG, MT, Maxxis stickes could not handle the cold. Some showed cracking from running them in the cold. That is in addition to them not working as well as a non sticky in the cold. I was surprised by the temps, from what I remember you need to be around 75* to use them hard. No use under 50* and dont store them below 34*.
When I ran the 54" TTC Claw in the snow I had no issues, but it is a different compound T5
This is the first I have heard about closed cell vs open cell.

My friend has a set if the XS’s they seem pretty soft as is. I cant imagine how soft the stickies are.

I just finished mounting mine up. Always a workout unmounting the 40in tires and then mounting the 43s on beadlocks. I’m headed out tomorrow. I only have about 15 miles of highway and they aren’t balanced yet. I’m sure I’m asking for a disaster

The treads tear and chunk a lot but it might be the type if rock we run has a lot of sharp flint. Disney and Smoor. I am impressed with them he walks up places I cant. But then again I have a 12 year old set of TSLs so they are hard as a rock.

I think a set of tractor tires that have sat outside since 1938 are softer than my TSLs.

I ran a set of Claws, albeit 33"s. They always went sideways first. 3 passenger and 1 driver mirror, windshield chipped on the inside and a bloody elbow.

The 43 SX non-sticky seems like it has a harder compound than other TSLs. A friend put a set on his buggy when he first built it and hated them. He switched to the sticky version and saw a huge improvement. He is running sticky Mickeys now and likes them too. The Mickeys will throw football size rocks and kill people behind you though.

TRUTH!!!! lol

I ran the SX stickies for a couple years in the midwest winters and they do fine. I now switched to the Baja Pro X and like them much better. have not had them in snow but they work better everywhere else compared to the SX imo. the mickeys throw stupid amounts of earth if ya have the hp.

That's one of my buddies to a T. He had like the first set of 39 redlabels for ever. Like steel cords sticking out. They did still hook up well though

I've been on Treps since 2011 and wheel year round, unless it's really stupid cold there's no issues. They are notably better in the snow than my reds were, reds turn into ice cubes below freezing due to the open cell. I'm sure temperature has a effect but not once have I caught myself wishing for non stickies cause it was cold out.

I found my brand new treps fucking dreadful in snow. But I was coming off a grooved 40” Mickey DOT tire that was really really good in snow. Accidentally ran into snow at a high elevation. Sucked.

now after running the treps in summer, I can never go back to a job sticky in summer. But I have to have a winter set of tires. It’s cold as fuck for 8 months of the year here so.

but yeah get stickies. They’re dandy in the warm

Maxxis sticky trep seem todo decent in the snow. Not a "snow" tire but not bad.

I agree. So much so that I wheeled new 37” sticky treps in South Dakota,,,,until they were shot. (Regrooved twice). I then got 40” sticky treps. I wheel regularly in the winter. They don’t “crack” or warp or turn into ice turds or become democrats. They just work.

COLD WEATHER STORAGE NOTICE

For Cold Weather Storage (short-term or extended):
When the Maxxis competition tires are exposed to temperatures below 32ºF (0ºC), the unique racing rubber compounds used in these tires will lose their flexibility. This loss in flexibility can lead to potential cracking and other damage to the tire.

TO MINIMIZE THE CHANCES OF THIS HAPPENING, CONSUMERS AND INSTALLERS ARE ADVISED TO FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Do not move or operate the car with these tires mounted on the vehicle if conditions are below 32ºF (0ºC). ALWAYS INSPECT FOR SIGNS OF CRACKING! NEVER USE TIRES THAT HAVE CRACKED!
2. Always store these tires indoors and at temperatures above 32ºF (0ºC).
4. Avoid transporting and handling these tires in conditions below 32°F (0°C).
5. Do not mount or dismount these tires when the surrounding work area temperature is under 50ºF (10ºC). ALWAYS INSPECT FOR SIGNS OF CRACKING! NEVER USE TIRES THAT HAVE CRACKED!
6. Before mounting or dismounting, store these tires indoors for at least 24 hours in a temperature-controlled area of 68ºF (20ºC) or warmer. ALWAYS INSPECT FOR SIGNS OF CRACKING! NEVER USE TIRES THAT HAVE CRACKED!
7. Remove these tires from the vehicle and deflate to half the normal air pressure during prolonged periods of non-use or storage.

How do the black label Milestar Patagonias compare?

How do the black label Milestar Patagonias compare?

If you ask the sponsored Influencers, they are the best tire ever. If you ask the poors who bought them because they were the cheapest tire they could fine, they will tell you they got what they paid for.
I only know of one KOH racer that runs them and it looks like his main sponsor is Milestar.
