If you follow my Cabin thread, you might have seen I demolished my ankle last year. (9 months and a couple days ago).

I got a little screwed by medical people. Didn't see it was broken (urgent care 2x)as it was so swollen it didn't show on xray.

A couple months later and still hurts like a MFer I got MRI. 4 fractures, 2 ligaments gone.... Awesome. Glad I was in a walking boot.

So long story short my talus bone is dieing. Fractures are healed, but the inside never did. It's Avascular Necrosis. It sucks.

It's a lot better now, but hurts and I have tendinitis on every tendon from lack of use.

I LOVE to ski. Missed all last year due to ankle. It's the only sport I am kinda good at.

Met with the surgeon today, 4 surgeries. All at once at least. Drill a few holes in the dead bone to try to stimulate it to heal again, marrow transplant, clean up bone fragments and ligament chunks, and cut my calf muscle loose to loosen it up.

So the question. Try to ski this season and do the surgery next year, or just do it now and miss another (supposed to be good) season.

Next hiccup. I can't exactly try skiing at the moment. Ankle gets angery walking.

I did a couple days last year when it hurt a lot more and it was miserable.

So risk it? If I collapse the bone I'm in for an ankle replacement....

Why would anyone on here know what the best choice is for you and your health? Seriously, are you on drugs or what? If you can’t figure out what’s best for your health then I’d say you’re doomed in life. Not to be a dick but really, wtf?!?

I guess I'm doomed. :flipoff:

Sorry thought I could talk here. Been a shitty week and just wanted to get opinions.

Thanks to the other guys. Yeah I guess know the answer just don't want to hear it I guess.

Thats good.

I jacked up an ankle for a few months and it was very eye opening. I ride the bikes different these days.
I missing biking.... I can do flat and uphill, standing to go down is no fun. But yes I am lucky I have a great team of guys

Knee issues here not ankle but I lost my ACL and Inner Meniscus 2 seasons ago pretending I could still ski when I have been boarding for over 20 years. Got the damage cut out and declined the shitty hacktastic repair. Surgeon told me to be careful and probably take a season off.

Well I said fuck it and got on the snow. I listened to my knee and did light days. 1st was only 1 run. By the end of the season I could ride blues all day but blacks still kicked my ass. A lot of rehab this summer and I am feeling like it may be a great year.

Only did 59k feet last year but stil better than 0 feet.

Never getting on skis again. That shit is dangerous. :lmao::flipoff2:

Used to be some couch time, pizza and a shitload of cheap beer would heal anything from broke bones to hearts. Not so much these days:lmao:

I blew my knee out and had to park the bike for a year, no MX at all
I found a different hobby to hold me over and now I can ride again

it sucks, but it sucked less than giving up my favorite sport all together
OP suck it up, go get a job on the resort somewhere so you can still be around it while you cant play
