If you follow my Cabin thread, you might have seen I demolished my ankle last year. (9 months and a couple days ago).
I got a little screwed by medical people. Didn't see it was broken (urgent care 2x)as it was so swollen it didn't show on xray.
A couple months later and still hurts like a MFer I got MRI. 4 fractures, 2 ligaments gone.... Awesome. Glad I was in a walking boot.
So long story short my talus bone is dieing. Fractures are healed, but the inside never did. It's Avascular Necrosis. It sucks.
It's a lot better now, but hurts and I have tendinitis on every tendon from lack of use.
I LOVE to ski. Missed all last year due to ankle. It's the only sport I am kinda good at.
Met with the surgeon today, 4 surgeries. All at once at least. Drill a few holes in the dead bone to try to stimulate it to heal again, marrow transplant, clean up bone fragments and ligament chunks, and cut my calf muscle loose to loosen it up.
So the question. Try to ski this season and do the surgery next year, or just do it now and miss another (supposed to be good) season.
Next hiccup. I can't exactly try skiing at the moment. Ankle gets angery walking.
I did a couple days last year when it hurt a lot more and it was miserable.
So risk it? If I collapse the bone I'm in for an ankle replacement....
