I’m starting to work on my Tj project and plan to attempt a build thread. Plan is 110-112 wheel base with as much of the stretch to be in the rear as possible. It’ll be built on gm 60 front sterling 10.25 rear. Dual triangulated with 14in kings front rear.

I bought the rig from a friend who rolled it on the highway. Got it running with the plan to keep it mild, and realized I don’t fit in a tj with poison spider cage, I'm 6’6”. So I started cutting and it got out of hand. /attachments/c4f6f9c7-47b7-496f-9341-b1d056a2b650-jpeg.644978/?hash=041d17523116023bee946b8b61a8135a

Got the frame brackets all cleaned off and a set of my spares rolled under the front on the front axel. Looking like a 20-21 in belly height ride height and 16 at full stuff will be attainable

Got the front truss fabbed up. I wanted super low profile so I welded what I could directly to the cast. After rolling it Under the jeep I’m pretty disappointed I didn’t take it farther to the passenger side as it would’ve made a bump stop pad super easy. It would also look more uniform. Instead I stopped roughly where I will mount the upper link. Oh well I can add on in the future if need be.

Got a little more work done. The fronts fully linked now. I plan to build shock mounts next and then start on the rear.

It’s stupid tight fitting everything and trying to plan for the exhaust and driveline while getting decent angles and keeping a low ride hieght. I can see why most guys stretch the front another 5in more than I did.

I got 44* of triangulation. 34.5in uppers 36.5in lowers. With nearly parallel uppers unfortunately. 9.5 separation at axel 6.25 frame. Should work ok I hope.

My only advice is to slow down and tack weld everything. It’s easier to cut a tack weld and move things than cut out a full welded in anything.

I’m trying. But something’s I’m confident in. Likely the things that’ll bight me in the ass. The truss and the link brackets are the only thing fully burned together. The the link brackets I wanted to fully weld on the table. The brackets them self are only tacked on the frame.

I did also burn my shock towers on solid but I don’t see why they won’t work.

Got the shock towers built and welded on. It’s sitting on its own wieght up front currently. Shocks laid back at a 20* angle wich im not super happy about but that’s where it fit and allowed room for working on accessories. And was eye pleaseing

As a mechanic for a living that ease of working on stuff is always at the front of my mind.

Looks like you deleted AC, and wapped the Alt to its location? Do you have a pulley in the old Alt spot?

I just yanked the ac because it’ll always be topless. And it steels a little horse power 😂 I didn’t reroute anything. Just bought a non ac belt.

I forgot the block broke where the motor mount bolts on. So my new motor mount also uses 2 of the ac bracketry holes.

I see almost every jeep seems to have the rear coilover angled back, this seems wrong to me. Why is it so common? I’m going to be mocking my coilovers soon, packaging is easier tilted back, mainly being able to run a connecting bar between the towers behind the seat. But in my mind the weight distribution between front and rear would benefit from them forward or vertical. So what are the pros and cons of forward/vertical/rear leaning?

Have you always just done a custom cage for any custom/bucket seats for the TJ? I'm 6'4, had the grand idea of throwing buckets and a 5 point in my 00' and I get it all thrown in and if I rolled it I would've decapitated myself through the roof.

This is the first TJ I’ve owned. And it already had prp seats and a poison spider cage. There was zero chance of making the cage work. And I wanted to room in the back for my daughter. Is why I started chopping it. If you weren’t worried about rear leg room, a cage could be done that allowed factory tops. But I don’t know what ones to try. And I doubt any of the ones on the market would be comfortable with out modifying. Jeeps really aren’t built for guys over 6 foot in my opinion.
