What's new

Things you have found on the side of the road.

Still wouldn't. Almost cost my bil an eye doing that. They're hot garbage.
Firefighter I know used a screwdriver to pick at something on his motorcycle. No safety glasses. Tip broke and lodged itself in his eye.

3 surgeries later, significant time away from work (single income family), barely has enough vision to pass medical and but he kept his job luckily.

Changed my thoughts on wearing safety glasses. :homer:

I'm pretty good about it for a while. Then I start getting lazy and stop wearing them. Then something dumb happens and I'm back to being pretty good about them for a while:laughing:

Couple weeks ago I had a sliver come off the chisel on an air hammer. Through my shirt and burried itself. Took awhile to dig that fucker out.:homer: Currently in the wearing safety glasses stage:grinpimp:

After I heard that story I was grinding on an axle without glasses, fucking piece of metal shoots into my eye. "FUCK!"

Run upstairs to the bathroom and start looking for it. Big sliver of material got under my eyelid at the top of my eye. I dug it out with a cotton swab, washed it out... Lucked out.

Need to get better about using them when running the weedeater. :shaking:

a rocking chair , an estwing hammer i still use, also a dead guy in my front yard/driveway.

Local looney/drug guy known by cops lived down a short dead end dirt road across the street from me. Best i can tell in a stupor one night he wandered down the street, grabbed my garbage can at end of the road and pull a little ways up my driveway, then tumbled down into woods/brush and landed in a ditch/springfed stream that fed neighbor's pond and died. I found the can in driveway headed to work one morning and thought what the fuck?

Found him a week later, i thought the smell was where i had been killing stray cats & posums and tossing them in that general vicinity. :homer:

Fucker cost me a new well, he was just upstream from a bored well right near that stream that came with the house, i drilled a new, drilled well quickly and sanitized lines.

pardon my ignorance. what is a bored well? do you mean one that dosn't have a steel casing down XX feet? Hand dug well?

Dug Wells

Dug wells are the oldest type of well and are typically excavated by shovel as deep below the water table as the digger can go. Once dug, the well’s walls are lined with stones, bricks, tiles, concrete, or steel to keep it from collapsing. Bored wells are similar to hand-dug wells but utilize a boring machine instead, allowing for a slightly deeper well. Both wells are inexpensive and low-tech, making them an easy and affordable option that requires little maintenance. They can also access water through less permeable ground layers such as fine clay, sand, and silt. However, both wells are larger in diameter and lack continuous casing, making them more susceptible to contamination. Also, because they’re both shallow, they are prone to dry up during droughts. Finally, these wells are labor-intensive and not suitable for rocky ground.

Drilled Wells

Most modern wells involve well drilling, which uses percussion or rotary drilling machines to tap into aquifers from 100–800 feet below the surface. The ability to reach greater depths means that drilled wells are less likely to dry up during droughts and can last between 30–50 years, depending on the aquifer. In addition, drilled wells are less likely to become contaminated because of their depth, though we suggest that annual water testing and treatment be performed. However, because of the depth and specific machinery required, drilled wells are only suitable for particular locations on the property. The use of pumps also means that drilled wells require more maintenance and may experience more technical issues.

A rabbit that came out of a well, before we put a pump in it to supply potable water to a guys duck cabin. My dad offered everyone there $1000 each if they would lick it.:lmao:
I'd need to see the $$ first but I'd do it.

Edit: and some sort of alcoholic chaser on standby.

As a kid some of the best water I ever drank came from a hand pump well that was a couple hundred yards from a hog lagoon. Had to pump a few cups full and spill them for the water to be clear-ish. Look how I turned out?:flipoff2:

Not on the side of the road but I found two coolers at SMORR on the trails. Also found a little BT powered speaker. I gave the first cooler to my dad. Lifetime brand small one. I already have a Ozark Trail that size or I would have kept it. Second one was full of ice and drinks. threw it in the backseat of a buddy's 4 seater and went on down the trail. About 20 mins later a young couple in a 4 seater came back looking for it so we gave it back to them. The powered speaker I still have and use in the garage occasionally.

On the side of the road? found a pretty beat 8' step ladder. I let the BIL use it and never got it back. :shaking:
