Ahmaud Arbery Suspect Used Racist Slur After Shooting

One of the defendants in the case of Ahmaud Arbery, a black man killed while jogging in Brunswick, Ga., heard another defendant use an obscenity and a racist slur after shooting Mr. Arbery, a Georgia state investigator testified in a hearing.

A Georgia investigator testified on Thursday that one of the three defendants accused of chasing down and killing Ahmaud Arbery, a black man who was jogging in Brunswick, Ga., heard another defendant use a racist slur after shooting Mr. Arbery.

At a preliminary hearing in the case, the investigator said that William Bryan, who used his cellphone to film the fatal encounter, heard the remark by Travis McMichael, the man who pulled the trigger.

on the calming down note, apparently Seattle had a friendly pow wow the other day, didn't have near mass destruction and violence last night, and has agreed to end the curfew's time now instead of the end of the week.

major concessions reported and a victory for protests everywhere, Seattle PD will no longer be able to wear black mourning stripes on their badge in a fashion that may obscure their badge number :smokin: Victory!!

You know I never even thought about the fact a badge number could be concealed. But isn't it on every officers personal business card that they are required to distribute?

Hoping things continue to settle down. I'm gonna be driving across the country a week from today. I think I'll take a detour around the St. Louis area either way.

the only time that i think a talk to use phone would be handy is when getting pulled over. Get pulled over, "hey google, call whatever local county sheriff non emergency line". when the officer walks up and asks for my papers, as for his badge number and ask the county to verify it as legit at the same time. hand over my papers once i get the OK that his numbers check out.

why? because fuck the man. then there is no reaching in to pockets, no holding of phones, hands all in clear view. I'm not there to trust that his camera, if he has one, is on and functioning.

concerning the badges, it isn't at all about the numbers. it is entirely about breaking down the culture or system of officers showing unity for other officers. it is chipping away at their brotherhood. removing symbols. dehumanizing their role.

edit: and that is a stupid aim that makes the supposed victory hollow, it is just a concession to say "look we got a change!" rather than doing something meaningful, like ending no-knock warrants or the war on drugs or gun control or unending emergency power declarations, etc.

I saw that headline. They are total scum bags.

“The reason we could never be who we wanted to be and dreamed of being is you kept your knee on our neck,” Mr. Sharpton said in a sanctuary full of Mr. Floyd’s relatives and friends, along with political and religious leaders, as people around the world watched on television and online.

Yeah, right. It has nothing to do with the broken black families and the constant victim mentality.

I fully support the peaceful protests, and I vehemently condone police actions that cross the line, but to say what he did is so far from the truth it's sick. It just continues to perpetuate the victim mentality.
