The TRACTOR thread

Kinda need to know model or serial number to know... looks to be a ferguson 165/175 sized tractor but thats just my WAG... you could google fuel filters for both of them and maybe get lucky...

I think you were right

According to this the 165 & 175 were pretty similar, but the 165 was gas and the 175 diesel. So im guessing its the 175

Also says its 5925# with no attachments, so i should be ok hauling it with the bucket on

i think 165s were available with the perkins diesel as well... either way you should be able to get it away from there... dont forget to take a container of canned glow plugs/cosby sauce with ya... :flipoff2:

5925 isn’t counting weights, loader frame, or filled tires. I’d still haul it

Yeah im feeling better about the weight, i dont think itll be too bad to haul. Now hopefully i can get it running and dont have to winch it up the ramps!

Fuel filters ordered & should be here wednesday, so i should be good to go for thursday!

Took delivery Wednesday of last week. Still got to put on a bumper, some limb sweeps and cab protector. Probably wait till the end of the season to do that. Does a great job, kinda thirsty tho, 6 hours 8 gallons.

I have a 1980's (as best as I can tell) Massey Ferguson 20D with a Perkins 2.5L 3-cyl diesel engine. The threads on the post on the starter solenoid where the positive from the battery connects are going away and the connection won't get tight enough to make a solid connection.

Taking the starter off the engine looks like it will be a challenging to get to the one bolt in the back because of some hard lines that are running above the location and I can't seem to land a socket on the bolt head. Looking at the solenoid, it looks as though there are 2 nuts holding/attaching it to the starter on the side opposite of where the positive cable connects and a brass bridge on the side where the positive connects.

My question is, can I just remove the solenoid and replace it with a new one provided I can get a replacement. Looking on eBay, it looks like I can. The starter works fine so no need to replace the whole thing for $250 when it looks like I can replace just the solenoid for like $45.

Does this seem reasonable?

Too bad ford didn't have a solution :flipoff2:

Think outside the box. :flipoff2:

Yes you can replace just the solenoid if that is all that needs replacing.

8 gallons for 6 hours is pretty OK for one of those. The l25s will easily use 1 gallon per hour with half the hp.

But I need to talk to someone in the know definitely as I'm a cylinder virgin.
Best thing you can do is set up to get a grip on the damn thing. A pipe vise like this chinesium one will pay huge dividends when you go to start pulling the rod and piston out of the barrel.

Not that bad.... its the tractor I tell all my friends to buy as thier first when they start talking to me about finding them something. Also due to inflation his cost of use will overall be extremely low per hour if he ever sells

Same one I bought new. Works well when I had 5 acres but wish I bought a little more hp for the hill heading up to the 43 acres. Just means I drive a little slower on the steep dirt road.

Spoken like a Toyota owner. :lmao:

The dollars will be worth less then so he'll still pay for it even if nominally he doesn't lose much.

Yep perfect tractor for 5 acres or maybe slightly larger if it's flat. Add some steep hills and it's to slow for the amount of work it will do.

Well that looks way worse then your first Pic,
Yeah the weeds had grown up a bit!

Mission fail.

Never got the fuel pump to work, going to have to order one.
Tried winching it up the trailer but the rear right tire won't turn. Even with 2 snatch blocks the winch just wouldn't drag the tractor up the ramps.

Looks like there's some kind of roller for mowing, a back blade, a brush hog, and something else in the weeds. Supposedly there's a set of forks for the bucket too.

So I guess the new plan is to order a fuel pump, and bring cleaner and an air compressor to try to flush all the fuel lines with hopes we can get it to run. The starter cranks over pretty good, so I think once we get the pump replaced it'll run. it actually had green coolant in the radiator, and the crankcase was full of oil so thats promising.

Appreciate the heads up. Asked one of the dudes I used to run fuel with if his S-I-L who used to work for Kubota would be interested. I'm working a lot, wouldn't be mad if he knocked them out for me. But he hasn't gotten in touch with me, after I made contact, guess he's not interested so I'll probably attempt next weekend.

Need to get the seals still.

Its a 3165.

Did some preliminary research, looks like the 3165 is the 'industrial' version of the 165. Mostly just a heavier duty fixed width front axle, and most of them came with the FEL. Oh and yellow paint instead of red  But thats about it.

Trying to cross-ref the serial number now

I think it might be mid 60s. Got a fuel pump showing up sometime around the 6th, so ill go back in a couple weeks. Gonan bring and air compressor, some welding wire and brakleen and see if the fuel lines are as gunked up as the pump & filters were. Hoping we can get it running and figure out whats going on with the rear right tire.

Some sort of center stear unlimited articulation row tractors. Apparently one of them drove 5-10 years ago.
Was told they are Cummins v6 diesels. Hopefully some fuel and a batterey gets them going otherwise it's going to be a pita to get them to thier forever spot.
I love fawkin with diesels. Half the time. The reason they were parked was because of someone too stupid to own a mechanically injected diesel. Unlike a gasser you throw out one of the big threee. Spark! If it’s got compression all it needs is rotation air and diesel. Happy tinkering
