So, the Marlin 1895 Dark.

How badly do you hate it, and why?

I don’t hate it, but I’ve never had a boner for lever guns, traditional or otherwise. Probably designed to be used for “home defense” in some communist shit hole or a state where you can’t own a proper weapon.

If it’s available in reasonable calibers it might not make a bad woods/ranch/knock around gun.

Looks like it’s just .45-70, good choice for a woods gun but it rather have .44 magnum for a self defense crossover load. More capacity and faster follow up shots.

Cool option here: https://www.marlinfirearms.com/lever...model-1894-sbl

I have one in .45-70, seems to be decent. Fun to shoot. Still waiting for the can to show up. Hornady leverlution ammo has a good kick to it.

There is pre-order for it in .44 Mag being offered, and it's unclear to me but I think they intend to offer it in a half dozen or so calibers at some point. I'm not sure why, they've made it for a while in 45-70, but maybe that was just the test run to see if there was a market for it and they're now adding to it? The .44 Mag would get you a couple more rounds in the tube and about 75% less shoulder hamburgering potential.

IMHO the 1892 action is superior if you're going to go with a handgun round.

I'm curious how decent it would be to shoot the 45-70 with a decent brake on it.

I've shot a couple different factory loads out of mine.

Factory 300 grn. RNFP with a charge light enough for older guns isn't too bad and fairly inexpensive (around a $1.00 each/bulk).

Hornady leverlution 325 grn. flex point boots quite a bit more and is around $2.00 each.

I have some Hornady 410 grn. sub x rounds. I haven't shot these yet, waiting on suppressor.

They are very short rifles. They will work well in a tree stand or ground blind. Almost exactly as long as a 16" AR with collapsible stock completely collapsed.

I haven't put it on paper yet. Zeroed at 25 yds. blew up a few logs around camp and shot some boulders out around 250 yds. offhand.

I'm a lever gun fan in general; own a Model 94 30-30, Govt. 45-70 and a .357 and always looking for more. I also like black guns - I had to go back to PBB and search, but in October of 2012 posted when this was released: https://www.guns.com/news/review/gun...on-30-30-video - it's a Mossberg 464 30-30 that was released at the height of zombie/tacticool.

I don't love or hate the Marlin 1895, but can't see myself buying one.

I hate Mossberg safety's. That one will require blood, more than likely. If you hunt wet conditions oil the shit out of it.

Yup, hate it , ghey as aids. I do like old lever guns. Got a model 94 when my grandfather passed, still haven’t shot it

Well it's a lever, so it does nothing for me. 45-70 is cool because it's a big thumper, and it's plastic so it won't get soaked and warp...but it's a remlin, so it will rust horribly. 3/10, I wouldn't be mad if I won one, but I wouldn't pay more than $100.

Not everyone lives somewhere that it rains 368 days of the year. :flipoff2:

I haven’t shot a .45-70, but a buddy of
mine has a .444 Marlin that wasn’t as bad as I expected. Probably close to a 3” magnum turkey load.

The .44 Magnum models hold 8+1 instead of 5+1, I don’t think many people realize how much closer they are to a rifle round than a pistol round. With a 16” barrel you should be able to push a 200 gr bullet at 1,800 FPS. Plenty for home defense.

I have a 16" 1892 in .44 Mag, and it certainly does work. But as I said before, I think that action is superior if you're going to run a handgun round.

The stocks are painted wood. There goes that theory.

I know, and nobody seems to make a composite set.

A couple years ago I would not have had any interest in a lever action. I had one in 30-30 as a kid, hated big dumb slow bullets. In the last couple years got into suppressors and I'm interested in big dumb subsonic bullets. Most rifles I own are fast long range rifles. This is more of a toy for hunting coyotes and javalina.

Wonder what sort of cleanup would be involved with a 45-70 short range COM hit on two legged vermin in your living room!

I don't care for the cord wrap on the loop or the cord strap, otherwise it just has a rail section along the top with would be handy if you already had an optic and mount and wanted to save a couple bucks not buying a new mount

they don't bug me, but i certainly wouldn't pay extra for one. still trying to get my neighbor to trade me an older marlin 30-30 for a revolver. i like lever guns, some people like accuracy, some people like durability, whatever. different strokes for different folks :rasta:

I hate lever guns that have a safety. :homer:

This.

I have an early 50s Marlin 30-30 that is my go to hunting rifle. I absolutely fucking hate the cheap ass furniture on newer firearms. It takes a lot for me to get excited about new rehashed guns, a tacticool version is a hard no.

The most fun thing I've found to shoot are pumpkins filled with water...
