In a major and unexpected win for immigrants, the Supreme Court has blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, the Obama-era policy that provides work permits to undocumented immigrants who came to the country as children.
In a 5-4 decision, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote that the Department of Homeland Security’s September 2017 decision to end the program was “arbitrary and capricious.”
