It seems that black NASCAR driver Bubba Wallace says the Confederate flag needs to be banned at NASCAR races. they are going along with him.

It's coming down, no question. It was carved in the 1970s, so it doesn't have any particular provenance to it, unless you count Mustang IIs as particularly worthy of esteem 🤣

Perhaps it will survive as a curiosity, or with engravings labeling them as I did.

I swear NASCAR did a soft ban about the time the Dukes of Hazard BS went down, I can't find it but they were trading Confederate flags for American Flags or race team flags. I'm pretty sure of it.

You're not wrong. This is absolutely horrible. This is one of the most troubling developments in several decades. I'm talking about all of it, the Confederate flags, Columbus, the whole thing.
I don't own a Confederate flag, even though I live in a State that Southerners typically marvel at the number of Confederate flags. I think Sherman is a badass and so is Grant. Grant just won't let Bobby Lee alone.
But destroying symbols, that's awful. Some of these symbols had to be removed to Museums, others can be left in place with an '*'.
And I will never endorse the removal of a common footsoldier statue as being anything other than hate. It's never wrong to defend your home, and a large portion of America lost a major war.
Literally trying to alienate one group of Americans for another. This is not progress, it's animal rage, and it's straight up Communist revolution. This is evil.
Those are both Americans, and they need to be memorialized.

I'm with you there. I work in a museum that covers our States involvement in the CW. We get a lot of that "Your side were the losers, yuck, yuck, traitor BS
The way I usually phrase it is:
These people answered the call of their State to do what they thought was right at the time. Almost 90,000 lives were lost in that service. History may judge it differently today but we can still honor their bravery and willingness to answer the call. Can you picture yourself in their position?
ANY time anyone tells any group their history doesn't matter it comes back to bite. Didn't go well when we told Indians that, or Black people, or even the Chinese who toiled and died to make our western rail system. We all need to realize that History is a shared experience with many facets and not all of them pretty or even well understood.
But to tell someone theirs doesn't matter just pisses people off and galvanizes them against you no matter how well you justify it with modern thought.
They are probably making sure they can still do the State Fair circuit...
The Band "Confederate Railroad" got dumped by several of them last year over the same stuff.

Supposedly went into surgery. I presume severe concussion and brain bleed, plus cracked skull. Possible neck injury/fractured vertebrae... not to mention if the statue landed on him after he fell too.
Yes, even them. Tolerance is a two way street.
There is a movement at A&M to remove the most prominent and popular statue on campus. Guy was governor, school president, and literally saved the school from being closed. He also fought for the Confederacy. Everyone takes a picture with him while a student, black and white alike. Yesterday he was vandalized by BLM, and the spineless president didn't even mention it today during a public statement on racism.
