The Black Ghost

cool story, but plenty of bull shit. I can believe a stock hemi challenger was the fastest thing around.

On YB some guys were saying they street raced in Detroit in the same area, same streets, same time period, and never heard of this car. Reminds me of what my former boss who was in a fairly popular local band when he was younger used to say when people would ask him if they were going to do a "reunion tour".... "we are much better in legend than we ever were in real life, let's leave it that way".

Watched this the other day. Cool story about a badass 1970 Dodge Challenger 426 owning the street race scene in Detroit in the early 70s.

Worth the watch if you have a spare 40 minutes.

This showed up on everyone's feed about the same time it seems. How much do they pay for that?

7:32 that commercial with Buford T. Justice in nascent form in 1970. I love old shit like that. I wonder if Jackie Gleason saw that commercial and used it to make Justice?

And that's a really modern commercial too. The way the guy's responding and that last line "What's that doohicky in there boy?"

"Oh it's a new optional Slapstick racing.... shift.... " as Buford T. Justice nods and smiles sardonically. That is very very modern for 1970. In fact I'd say that commercial is revolutionary.

Yep, blah blah blah, bullshit bullshit. Decimating all on those 235's, uh huh...

Bunch of boomers with over-romanticized tall tales. Stop glorifying these old stock musclecars as something insane when it probably ran mid 13's, it's hilarious.

Nice feel-good story though.

Stir stir.

Mid 13s was fast on bias plies.

For me that's not even the close to what the story is. I enjoy seeing the reaction of those that are telling it. The energy his brother had when telling the stories, it's awesome. How is kid went from not knowing anything about cars to helping fix it up and then driving it. How his dad signed it over to him and had all the paperwork. How he loved the car but put it away to focus on his family. How he ordered it how he wanted it (I never believed that was really possible).

I enjoy hearing about these bits of people lives, that what makes people interesting. Your car wasn't that fast or your thing wasn't as good as this is worthless to me.

according to google...
this Dodge would accelerate 0-60 mph in 4.7 sec, 0-100 km/h in 5 sec, 0-200 km/h in 20.3 sec and quarter mile time is 13.3 sec.

Fast for its time...
