The AR assembly thread

I actually like the looks of them, even though I’m in a free state. They just seem more appropriate for a hunting gun to me, I typically shoot bolt guns. I was looking at side chargers when I was building my first AR, but decided I’d be better off learning to use the platform as designed. If you’re planning to drill and tap the FightLite bolt carrier for the charging handle, I’d buy two spares also. Drill and tap the second so you can swap it in quickly if you happen to break one, and then leave the other stock in case you find the drilling and tapping causes failures.

I'm really only considering non reciprocating uppers, the Gibbz G4 uses a unique cam pin but other than that it works with an unmodified Bolt carrier. The SCR bolt carriers are $250 so I'd rather not deal with buying a second one right now.

I just found this video the other day. Apparently some cases have been coming out with longer than spec base to shoulder dimensions.

I have a 6.5 Creedmoor bolt gun and haven’t had any issues with it, but I could see how an AR-10 slamming a round in there could get one stuck.

Also, I assume you DO have a 6.5 barrel on there, right? Guy at the range the other week had an AR-10 and kept getting cases stuck. He was told he had bought a 6.5 and had the correct ammo, but the barrel was marked .308. I got the hell out of there.

Unless Faxon miss stamped the barrel. For shits and grins I tried to chamber a 7.62 round and the bolt wouldn't com close to closing, there was a circular ring around the bullet.

It's a fluted faxon match barrel, so I expect the chamber to be on the tight side. I had more issues with S&B ammo than the Hornady. Some lube on the cases helped as well.

Can you splain how to assemble the biden AR14.

I relly needs it splaind to me mang.

I'm starting to put together a parts list for a "This state blows" faux AR. Since I cant have an AR, the plan is to buy a Flightlite SCR lower and build that instead. Anyone have any recommendations on side charging uppers that dont need special BCGs? Due to the design of the SCR I have to use their BCG. I was looking at the Gibbz G4 upper. anything else I should consider?

Gibbz is made by NFA just so you know. Might be able to find it a little cheaper.

Thanks for the heads up. It seems the Gibbz has both the detent and latch style charging handle. Havent decided if the latch is worth the extra money on a 5.56 build.

JoeBobs also has them with their brand at times. I have 4 of them on all kinds of calibers and the detent is plenty.

Good to know. The more research I do, I find it funny how many different companies are using the same manufacturer to make the same product with a different logo etched on it.

Just finished putting it together. Hand stop and light will be next, just waiting on the light to get here. This was is my first AR I've ever done. I definitely learned a few things.

Your length of pull looks to be over 13.5 inches. Hope you aren’t too attached to your dog. :flipoff2:

Edit:
I mean really, who's going to sell an illegal brace? Yes, in that pic the brace is fully extended.

I never said it was an SBA you fool. As for your dog, you must be new to guns.

Fool I may be. New to guns? No. New-ish to AR's? Yes. So, enlighten me please, Mr gun guru.

I’ll spell it out for you...

When the ATF comes to raid your house after they decide you now have an illegally constructed SBR after making their newest ruling and telling nobody, they are going to shoot your dog for their own safety, even if he’s a 14 year old basset hound passed out on the porch.

My Mk18 clone:

Stag Arms lower receiver
J&T upper w/ 10.25” heavy barrel and M16 BCG
YHM Diamond carbine quad rail
Superlative Arms adjustable gas block
Primary Arms red dot
Burris XTR mount
Chinesium LED flashlight
Palmetto State Defense URS-Mk5 suppressor
ERGO Ambi Grip
Fostech Echo 2 trigger w/ Trigger Depot tactical trigger spring upgrade
Captured spring & buffer (I forgot but it isn’t the JP model)
J&T LPK

Waiting on a Superlative Arms piston kit. This is a fun rifle to shoot. No flash, substantial reduction in report, very little recoil and a soft recoil impulse. I can ring steel all day long with this without hearing protection.
