I finally figured out my Chiner contactor wiring so I can begin making new cables. But I have discovered a new issue… my winch free spools no problem but it seems like the brake has an issue where it sticks in some spot and I lose gear engagement?

Anyone come across this? Found a bunch of issues about not free spooling online. Dead solenoids but my winch motor has power and is working as it should?

There are bearings and the 2 discs in the brake system, I'd bet that one or more is either fucked or flat spotted and causing improper engagement. Could also be rust on the slide shaft not allowing the free spool to fully engage. I had a bitch of a time getting the brake assembly off of the shaft, and it was a real PITA to reassemble it. Best advice is to take apart and inspect, it's an incredibly simple set up. I just rebuilt mine entirely so if you have any questions pm me

Works mint now that the gear is installed the right way! So stupid...

If there was one thing positive that happened today… the wireless remote wiring was correct from the get go!

Now I own a real #Ghettopin winch

The double hammer trick works well to remove the brake without a fight (don’t strike the end of the brake shaft directly; use a similar sized hammer). Mine fell off after three hits. I forgot about this trick from my lawn mower and chainsaw days. I’ve never seen it referenced for the 8274

If you don’t own a hydraulic crimper, I highly recommend one! $70CAD off bezozon

Anybody know where to get the old style brake pucks? I bought a rebuild kit but it has the discs. Some searching shows people just using the discs but that means the discs have to rub over the old holes for the pucks.

Not much luck searching.......

I’ll be transferring this winch from my TJ to the Willys once it’s done. My custom frame is all .125” wall box tube. Before I weld the front bumper/cross member on should I just upsize it to .25” wall? I’ll be recessing the winch and the two bottom mount holes will be below the bumper. I can run sleeves on the top bolts through the tube.

in for tech

I have a hitch receiver mount 8274 for the rear of my rig. I ended up chewing up the solenoid box and now its using a Chinese box.
