What's new

The 4xFordYota Franken-Fine Axles!

Fun note for all the king pin novices out there... lower king pins are never included in kingpin rebuild kits. And napa does not have any (or at least they can't pull any up in their system). If you need lower king pins, summit racing has them!

I did order up some fucking sexy steer arms... will tease everyone until they arrive. Then I'll post some pics of them.

East coast gear supply has a ton of them in stock
Ya a bunch of aftermarket places have them in stock... just did napa first because it's right down the street from my warehouse. Checked summit next because they ship stuff to me in 2 days lol.

Got in the steer arms and cut the front wms! Check these works of art out. I'm excited for the super kingpins... but I might be even more excited for how cool these steer arms are from ballistic fab. 6 bolt, Modular double sheer, heims, ties into the knuckle (double sheer no matter how I set the steering), crossover or full hydro, hi steer or mid steer, and keyed.

Updated the first post with the final build plan as everything has fallen into place and things are finally moving now that I have almost all the parts.

Care to explain?

Links

The double shear piece adds very little actual strength imo. With only one separate smaller bolt holding it down, what are you gaining? Keep your main bolts tight and single shear is not an issue.

If you're running links, I would rather run an artec style arm and be able to put the drag link and tie rod under the arms and even further adjust the height of the tie rod for uptravel clearances. Having the tie rod on top of the arms puts the tie rod into the oil pan, frame, ect, too quick, especially those huge(tall) knuckles you have.

I ran artec arms on a king pin Dana 60 with tie rods on top of the axle similar to those and it was 8” or so above the centerline of the axle. Which really limited up travel and my truck was pretty tall.

My next build I’ll mount tie drag link in double shear under the arm to help get it lower.

Aren't those double shear things held on with 2 bolts and keyed to the main arm?

Agreed.

I clipped a tree doing 40mph, broke a 1" high steer arm, all with a single shear 3/4 bolt.
I think we talked about it in my build thread.

Maybe, I just don't see it as a huge advantage.

I also don't believe in just buying a set of predrilled arms with no idea how that will correlate with the pitman arm, Ram, kucnkle angle, etc. When combining as many different parts as he is, a blank set of arms is probably a better idea.

They are double bolted and keyed... Your thinking is wrong

I am also creating a 4" upwards clearance in my frame when rebuilding it in order to achieve just that with the high steer. The only thing to worry about is going to be the oil pan. Which should be just fine with a rear sump considering i currently have high steer and it all clears just fine. The bigger concern is the frame with going as wide as I am going and getting the articulation I am planning on. But that is one of the reasons I am building a new frame too.

Everything is done on the axles. Sent it all over to Orie (83 ricky bobby on IG) to have it all packaged and put in with the new frame and suspension. Updated the original post with all the parts being used.

You don't have to see it as a huge advantage. Its not your build ;)

Who said it wasn't taken into account? Just stop posting... you're wasting austin's bandwidth.

If you don't want criticism, you're in the wrong place.

You are going to be wasting a ton of up travel with the tie rod on top of those arms on top of those giant knuckles. That is a fact, not an opinion. weather you want to acknowledge it or not.

As far the those arms adding strength, you can debate it if you want. I'll admit I'm not an an engineer and haven't ran stress test on them vs other arms. I will say that bending or breaking 3/4" bolts in steering is not an issue with any level of crawlers, bouncers, racers ect that I'm aware of.

If that style arm was so great, maybe actual reputable companies would make them :flipoff2:

I ran Chevy tie rod ends on top of artec arms real similar to this. It was as my first build using Dana 60 and it was my limiting factor for up travel and my truck was tall.

Having tie rod up this high means track bar is mounted up high on axle end or way down off the frame on that side. Both no ideal for strength or up travel.

If this is a thread where you post your blinging parts and the fact you don’t understand how they work then great!!

Now imagine the knuckle even taller than a standard king pin knuckle

He does get media passes so what do you expect?

I get it, his attitude towards criticism stinks. But he's trying to build something that seems impractical in the first place. It may all fail miserably. I'm glad he's spending the time and money to potentially figure out what not to do so we all don't have to & it’s at least going to be entertaining.

Tyler now has 2 options:
Prove the haters wrong, makes them eat crow publicly
Prove the haters right, eats crow publicly

Either way, site content!:flipoff2:

finally someone who gets it.

I'm not here for technical advice. I was fairly certain that the overly sarcastic and Uber idiot attitude of the first post made that clear lol

I get zero enjoyment out of doing stuff "the way they are done". I don't believe in traditionalism or doing things because "that's how all the reputable companies do it". I've worked my glorious pale white ass off coming from a broken home and food stamps to building a business around not viewing things "the way they are". Im at a point in my life where i have the money to spend on stupid stuff. So I still don't understand why people are getting their lace lined panties in a bunch when I say I want to do some stupid idea with my money. Just enjoy the dumpster fire.

I'm not here for your acceptance. I'm not here for your ideas. I'm here to goof around and eat some public crows. The haters just need to enjoy the train wreck!

Mmmmmm so wideeeee.... seeing the punkin under the rig makes me feel like I'm gonna have some mental issues adjusting from the ground clearance of Toyota 8" on 40s, to these huge chunks of meat. Orie has started the teardown and install. Follow his IG to watch my clapped out yota get some stupid axles and suspension under it... 83rickybobby

I would like to cheer to the dumpsterfire... but Nate stole the name :( iykyk
